Yes, thanks for the explanation, Skippy. It looks a bit peculiar, I suppose, but it's good that the RN has a 'proper' aircraft carrier once more, if only for a few years before we decide we can't afford it and sell it to India or Brazil. :)

:hide: I'm a big on the ignorant side, bug I'd have thought command of a carrier and flying operations go hand in hand.
That's what it says in the '100 things you want to know about the QE' in the 'Navy News' Ben. I only quoted it :cpu:

😁 I realised that Dave, just thought it was a strange "selling point"

Nice looking ship though. 🚢

Oh, I agree mate. I don't think Skippy's more technical explanation would go down well with the general public and is far too long for a brief Q and A page. There is probably some merit in it though. A missile strike to the island would undoubtedly have catastrophic consequences for both command and control and flying ops. It's also worth noting that on most of our previous carriers (including the last 3).. flying ops would have been controlled from Flyco and not from the bridge. On the QE.. Flyco is in effect the aft island. Never will Wafoo's have had it so good

Wonder where the MCO is *-)

On a less technical aspect gents, I wasn't able to see her sail last night due to limited visibility and the fact that I'd gone to bed!
It appears that prior to her sailing the police had closed the pedestrian routes across the existing road bridge presumably for security.
Talking of bridges it seems that the new bridge will open on August 31st and for two days only pedestrians will be allowed to walk across it after which it will be exclusively for road traffic. :) EricT

Nah!
Command of the ship = stop it bumping into things
Flying operations= stop things bumping into you.

Yup.. he's the obvious choice for command being the most senior flat-top Captain in the RN. Note too his position is Commodore yet he has 4 thin stripes not one thick one :cpu:

I like that definition John

Reminds me of when the USN commissioned their new stealth destroyer the USS Zumwalt, the commander's name was Captain James Kirk.
