Would one of you be able to advise which of these is likely to be better?

https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/gi ... ds-5832053

or

There are lots of other cards, around this price using the GTX 1050 chipset, but not sure which is best suited to my requirements?

Hi Toby, the 2GB 1050 card is the best of those 2, by quite a bit. It seems there is a 1050Ti card with 4GB memory for $20USD more. If its in stock, that would be worth a punt, but you should do well with the basic 1050. P3D (If your ever tempted) recommends a minimum of 4GB.

Toby..

That mobo you're getting.. while already EOL.. supports PCI Express 3 so you'll be able to take advantage of all the bandwidth these newer cards can push out. It also has a very trendy M.2 slot for push-in solid state memory. Very fast and very stable from what I've read ;)

Hello all, after an evening of building (and finding out that a large component was completely loose inside the new power supply), a trip back to the warehouse where I collected the power supply and exchanging for another one, I am now posting from my new (and much quieter and cooler) PC :welldone: :cpu:

Still on onboard graphics and using my 10yr old TV as a monitor, but I'll get there eventually :)

Great stuff Toby. It's like a sauna across the UK tonight. Wouldn't be adverse to sitting atop a Swiss mountain. 😁 👍

Me neither  but where I live is only 1180ft ASL, which may sound like a lot, but isn't really. Topped out at 25C here today according to Meteoschweiz. I was in Germany this afternoon doing some shopping and one digital sign was reading 30C but I think it was a bit exaggerated.

Out of interest Toby, what output does your new PSU have? Before getting settled into choosing your GPU.. make sure your PSU has enough poke to cope :worried:

That would have been my next question - 550W is the answer. Nearly wrote 550MW (brain in "work" mode  ). I've actually just downloaded and installed FSX:SE and flown from LCY to Lambeth Bridge in a microlight and I'm amazed at the frame rates I am getting even with the sliders fairly far to the right.
