A RMS Laconia factoid. In January 1923 she began the first ever round-the-world cruise. She called on 22 ports and completed the voyage in 130 days. Traveling round the world at 16 knots does not sound like my idea of fun.

Just for fun I was doing some research on the RMS Laconia, turns out there were two RMS Laconia's. The first was launched in 1911 and torpedoed during the great war by U-50 on 25 February 1917, the second was launched in 1921 and torpedoed during the WW2 by U-156 on 12 September 1942. The curious thing I discovered was that first Laconia had twin funnels and the second Laconia had a single funnel. So the screenie DaveB posted must be of the second Laconia, from be some time in the 20's or 30's while the Menu posted was from the earlier ship.

Just a fascinating fact.

Carry on

Interesting, so if the voyage was let's say 24000 nm, and while at sea she did 16 knots, so she was at sea for 63 days and was in port for 67, 3 days per port. I think I could handle that, three days at sea followed by three days in port, repeat 22 times.

The round-the-world voyage at 16 knots definitely sounds more palatable when looking at it your way Joe.  And I completely missed the fact that I posted a menu from the earlier Laconia. :$ Still you have to love those early Cunard liners. Beautiful ships they were. :)
