Ah, I see now. I shall add 'Javelin Beta Tester' to my signature, as and when the day arrives. On that subject, has anyone heard when the Javelin might be released ? I'm quite looking forward to it.

It's a two stage process Paul. Beta 1 is used to reassure the developers that they've got everything spot on with Beta 2 (the public Beta) is used to point out all the flaws and ask what was the point of Beta 1. JF should just go straight to Beta 2 - would save a lot of time!

I'd like to know who are the beta testers and how did they get chosen? It seems that by the time the product goes public a lot of items are uncovered and require a patch or SP, so how come they got missed by the testers? How much time do they actually spend testing a product and what type of flights do they test them under?

There were numerous bugs reported with the Meatbox and while they were quick to botch a patch out to turn the lights off in the engine bay.. it's all rather quiet regarding the other faults it has. I think they should take a breath and fix what's currently released before dropping another 'Friday afternoon' job on us. 8)

Well mate, you know Pat (Aussieman at SoH) is on the AH staff as a tester.. he who had the FSAddon Anson for god knows how long and didn't twig the trim wheel worked opposite to how it should.. commented to Bazzar that he thought the flame covers on their Mossie looked too big (Bazzar reminded him that he WAS on the beta team) and more recently.. he who thought the inside of the Meatbox's nacelles looked bang on being lit light a Christmas tree!! If their other testers are of a similar calibre.. what hope do we have

Ah yes. I remember that discussion at SOH.

Still, I question the effort that went into beta testing. Was Pat the only one? How much time was spent? What type of flying the testers do?

I like to fly over some distance in vary weather and daytimes to check out the gauges, navigation, lighting, etc., and that is when I notice some things are not right. Others tend to be more critical of the external appearances and textures, whereas I tend to keep my head in the cockpit.

I'm still baffled by the beta testing process. Regardless, I'll get the Hunter and the Javelin when released due to my addiction to British aircraft.

Cheers

I think that's the same process we all do mate. Run it high, run it low, run it long, run it fast and slow.. cold and hot e t c.. and check that nothing falls off. As I've mentioned before, I think a great many 'so called' beta testers volunteer just to be 'first in' and have neither the interest or talent to be trusted with the job at hand. 8)

I'm going to go off topic for a moment and bring up a point related to flawed releases.

I'm flat tired of updates. Really. :hide:

I recently noted that my Aerosoft EE Lightning installs were an earlier version, so I spent an hour or so uninstalling, downloading and installing the latest. I see that Milviz has newer versions of their Phantom, and Flysimware has a new version of their Bell 47G. I noted a newer version of my Aerosoft Catalina and now there is an announcement on the ORBX Central 3. And on, and on, and on.. It is overwhelming if one wants to have the most recent version.

These updates take time and can be somewhat complicated if the previous install has some mods or addon textures. Seldom do they have an improvement or correction that is noticeable, and most seem just to update so they're compatible with P3D which I don't have.

It would be nice if the beta testers were thorough, so there were no bugs or issues. But if there are issues, it would be nice if the developer would provide updates only to those files that have the errors and not mandate a complete uninstall/reinstall process.

Makes one want to spend the afternoon at the pub rather than in front of the keyboard. :guinn:

Rant over.

Agree completely mate. To the best of my recall.. I currently have updates/fresh installs of the Milviz F4J/S, T38ADV, P38L, AH B17, JF Canberra/Tornado and Majestic Q400 waiting for me to deal with. I'm sure there are more but I now have so many, I've forgotten just HOW many 8) I think I updated the Aerosoft Lightning.. won't even bother with the Catalina! :wall:
