Do you have to be on Steam multiplayer to use FSX Steam or can you do FSX Steam without using Steam multiplayer on Dovetail?

No Aharon you don't need to be on the multiplayer at all. The Steam interface is necessary running in the background however though I don't think it has a large footprint memory wise.

My only issue with Steam is that if you are manually inserting files to the sim you have to drill down about 4 layers to reach the correct folders. It's a pain in the neck. Some claim Steam is more stable than regular CD FSX. I cannot say I have noticed any fabulous difference. Steam FSX still crashes (for me) or locks up with the same irregularity as old fashioned FSX and it is more or less a bare bones Steam that I run whereas my Archaic FSX has so many addons it is a wonder it starts at all :welldone: I tend to only use the Steam one to test 3rd party freeware and if it is OK there I transfer it over to FSX proper.
I would urge you to do likewise but wait for a Steam sale and buy it then I think I paid about $14 for it.

BTW Aharon, if you go down the above route i.e. having two FSX's installed. Be aware you have to install the old one first and Steam one after. If Steam is installed alone then FSX (old) cannot be installed as all the folders names in the hidden folder AppData are taken up by Steam.

Me too, only bought it because it was give-away price.
Consequently, it didn't hurt when I uninstalled it. :)

I, on the other hand, need to do a full reinstall of FSX Gold, except that I no longer have the install disk.

I am just so fed up of the dreaded eight minute freeze, which it can now do with nothing but FSX and FSAirlines running (used to think it was ASN related but it can freeze without that).

I will then have to reinstall everything else associated with it, if I can find all the registration keys - FSUIPC, FSTramp, ASN, FSCommander, Quality Wings 146 series, Concorde etc (the DM aircraft are simple by comparison)

Wish me luck when I can find a disk!
