Looks good John. You may need to upgrade the PSU if you decide to go SLI at some point though.
If you install both FSX & P3d you can always share most of the scenery between both installations. Personally though, I'd only install P3d unless you have add-ons that you can't live without that will only work on FSX. I do still have FSX installed, but it only ever gets used for testing these days.

Just updated to Win10, and here I am still able to post. :excited:
Have added F: drive, 1TB HDD.
Have bought a 250GB SSD, but can't see where it can be housed in the case. No slots anywhere like it :dunno:
I wanted to clone C: to F:, but the cloning software tells me both drives are empty and can't be cloned.
Retailer said I need to create a boot disk from within the cloning software, because Windows won't allow itself to be cloned while it's running. Makes sense, but the boot disk apparently got corrupted.
So, I thought I'd do the W10 thing and see what happens. So far it seems very slow, but that's on the old HDD at present.
I'm off to bed, it's been a long two days.

Have a look see on the backside of the motherboard, often nowadays there is a cradle for an SSD. That is where mine is, from memory there are 2 spaces. Mine is an Asus Maximus VII MB.

ASUS Maximus VII....the old Roman emperor?
Thanks for the tip, I'll look under the MB.
My joviality is all false.
Since last night, my computer refuses to start, and all the Automatic Repairs have failed. It offered going back to the previous build, but when I requested that, it said "Sorry, we can't do that"
I'm typing on Mrs A's machine.
I may be gone for some time.

Sri to hear of your woes Mike. Re Windows10 asking if you wanted to go back to the previous build, I fear it meant the previous Windows10 build. As well as doing the usual updates.. Win10 updates as a complete build every so often and as you'd only recently installed it.. there was no previous build available. I thought there was a way of going back to your previous OS but having never tried it.. I'm not sure how you go about it. All academic if your pc won't start.

I can imagine your frustration

Thanks for commiserations Dave ;)
I pulled the 2 HDDs out and plugged in the SSD.
Installed W7 from the 5yo disc, so I know that there will be many happy hours of updates.
At present, I am running all the utility discs that came with the machine, so that the video card and network controllers etc are recognised.
If learning is good for the brain, I should be great by tomorrow. I'm learning from my errors nineteen to the dozen :worried:

OK, I have Firefox up & running, but it doesn't know my bookmarks yet; they're all on my old disk, which is now re-connected, but when I try to get into its files, I'm denied. FSX.exe says there's a "side-by-side" problem.
Headache coming on, going to bed.

Mike

For Windows 7 updates, you no longer have to install them one by one. There is a 'rollup' pack which will install them all far more quickly.

Good instructions and links at -

Hope this is of help.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the tip.
Are they playing with my mind? The file includes the expression "windows6.1", and every time I've tried it, the dialogue box constantly says it's looking for updates but it never seems to find anything.
EDIT; you learn, and learn again, I see that W7 is actually 6.1, build 7601 :dunno: :dunno: 8) Today I spoke to my retailer, and he tells me that it takes several hours to sort itself out. The short story is that I've had so many problems, and I'm no computer whizz, so I'm giving up and letting them fix it up for me.
So I tried the other option listed, ie go to MS and d/l there. MS says you need IE v11. This, I d/l. Tried to run it, but it won't install until I go back and d/l another 4 or 5 updates. :dunno:

Though the previous w10 upgrade fell in a heap, I'm wondering if I should try it all again, using the SSD this time. If it fails again, I can always wipe the SSD and reinstall 7 from the disc.EDIT: tried this, back to line 3 above :cpu:

Another problem I have is that my backups are all sitting on my Netgear unit, but the new installation of W7 won't let me talk to it without username & password. It's always been admin & admin, but it doesn't recognise them any more.

I can feel that the hole I'm digging for myself is getting deeper :worried:

btw, when I first plugged the old HD in, I got a message that it had to be checked, and it ran the old CHKDSK, (white characters on black screen, which I've not seen in years) reporting that there were no problems with it. But when W7 started up, I got ----- detected problem, backup, etc etc.

Took the beast to the retailer, who did things which I did not know were possible. :-O
Why is this set to X? Why have you got that set up like that? Why? Why? Why?
I didn't even know that you could set that, this, or the other, or how to find out what the status was. :$
Hmmmm *-) you must have had a power cut or something.
Short story is that he got it all going again, and I was able to take Kevin's advice, getting the whole shebang up to date in a day. (including about 5 hours of windows checking for updates before it actually started).
Rescued everything from the old HD, W7 and a bunch of other progs running on the SSD, all my FS and libraries on the new HD.
Still no FSX yet. :(
