Hi Martin, I know you've flown T6 in RW; last time I was in a T6 instructor I was with was also rated on P51, said in actual fact the T6 was harder to land than the P51. Made an interesting point, especially when we got in formation with same P51.

I think that's a case in point isn't it. The majority of current warbird pilots (AFAIK) have the T6 as their last step before the warbird. If you can fly the T6 to a satisfactory level of competence, you can fly a warbird.

I think you will find that most warbird owners have a T-6 amongst the heavy metal as it keeps you on your toes. It was designed as a trainer and did just that. Its an easy aeroplane to fly straight and level, but a difficult aeroplane to master. It has some nasty vices - always trying to catch people out and that's why so many were built and used primarily for training. The COIN aspect came later in it's life.
I do have a lot of T-6 time, but that is all from the back. Lovely aeroplane so full of history and character. To me perfection in design (must have fallen out of the wrong side of the bed when a child!). Now spent over 30 years being involved with them all around the world and wouldn't change a thing, although still after a Mk.IIA, III and a T-6F. Two weeks ago, flew in my 13th UK based T-6 (wonder if that is a record?) in the form of the Compton Abbas based SNJ-5 N6972C. 14 is planned, just got to be arranged. They said at Compton that I couldn't call it that number, so it became number 12A
Best wishes,
Martin
