I have two questions regarding Windows 10, firstly when installed does that mean it becomes a different OS and FSX plus all add-ons including software have to be re-installed and re-registered?

Secondly, is Windows 10 only available as a download or do you have to order a DVD copy of it?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards
Nigel

Quick update:
I've only been offered a download.

On radio tech-talk this morning, they suggested waiting until MS divulges if there's an annual licence fee, and if so, how much. :dunno: *-)

Yes I had heard that Windows 10 will be a licenced version requiring an annual fee, which I think is a bad move...... No one gives you anything for free.....I am an untrusting soul ;)

I also read that MS will give you a year free then start hitting you.... Windows 7 will stay with me unless they bring out a new version of Xp

Tony, I am right with you there - honestly, I just don't like the smell of it.
Not enough info, not enough transparency about compatibility with FS or even DX, just "Trust us, and we will install it on your machine and keep it up-to-date without any input from you"
Well, I may well be completely wrong, but I will not trust any outsider to access my home network and set it up to suit his requirements - even if it is genuinely free-of-charge, and the software has proved itself in the big bad real world.

Mike you echo what most sensible people think, sadly there will be a lot of people jumping in without realising this. The MS team are forcing this on users for commercial reasons yet to be uncovered....
They are banking on the people who want new shiny things as soon as they are out. They struggled to get folk off XP and only did that after Win7 was out for a while and they stopped updates for XP. They will do the same for Win 7 in a year or two which will force people to move on. However I will never go for a licence version and stay with Win 7 even if they dont update it, by using decent AV you should be ok....
I can honestly say that XP was a better OS in that you had full control and everything was striaght forward, as OS's have evolved they try to take control away from you all the time, hiding things so you have to hunt the buggers down....

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you. :worried: :hide:

They haven't got me off it yet Tony!
I will watch the progress of this debate with great interest because I also like my FS9 and wouldn't want to lose the use of it. I certainly don't fancy paying an annual licence to MS. For one thing, fees only ever end up going one way don't they?
I find it very hard to decide what to do and keep deferring a decision about replacing my old pc. For the majority of internet use I use an iPad,the pc is mainly used for FS, iTunes and printing.Of course, should the pc go belly up I would be forced to decide sooner rather than later. *-) EricT

Nope, I am a confirmed W7 64 fan. I've PCing since 93 (afore that 'twas AMIGA, CBM64 & Spectrum) and have tried every MS OS since then and W7 is the best and most stable of the bunch. I tried W8.1 in April for 3 weeks when I did a rebuild and hated it I had to go out and buy a new W7 as my old PC had passed to SWMBO. All my stuff is getting just about right now after nearly 3 months. I don't intend on going through that agony again any time soon. So I will let others do the hard work on my behalf of testing W10.
I agree with the above XP was very good, not W7 good but No. 2 in my list of fave MS OS's. Heck I even like ME. I found that pretty stable, never had an issue with it.
Re the above list, I think hand on heart, most fun was to had with the Spectrum. beep. :S

Yeah.. I liked ME too. The major hassle I had was with it's lack of installed drivers but in reality.. each incarnation has carried more.. so much so that you don't need to keep the master disc handy. I liked XP too and still have one PC running it. I have a Vista laptop which I hate but I'm not gonna fork out for a new OS for it as it's on it's last legs

The most godforsaken, just get something out to the market by release date operating system ever released. It was utterly dire.
