Paul..

I've just done a few 360 aileron rolls both left and right and the AI/Gyro appears to be functioning correctly in FSX. Can't imagine why it would be falling short in P3D *-)

I bought the download version ages ago and then at Christmas when Flightstore had their sale on, purchased the DVD edition as this came with more repaints. As I enjoyed it the first time around, had no hesitation in buying the disk based package.

I haven''t flown it for sometime now, so perhaps now its time to return to the cockpit. Having a lot of time sat in the back of one (as seen here), I couldn't really fault it and it brought back a lot of memories. Least with the sim version, I don't get covered in oil and dirt or do my back in every time I get in my seat. Happy Days!!!

It's certainly a big old bird isn't it Martin. Airshow appearances in the UK are few and far between and I can only recall having seen one flying perhaps once. I don't usually buy (or fly) types that are not UK linked in some way but seeing footage of Avengers being used off our carriers on the Russian Convoys was enough for it to fall into that criteria ;) . I fully intended doing FAA paints for the squadrons concerned but have failed thus far :( I lived (and live) in the hope that some keen painter will beat me to it

She is indeed. Was a big step up (in more ways than one than the Harvards which I was used to before), but an aeroplane full of character. Loved looking after her and a shame that in the end she moved overseas to Switzerland, but where she now has her turret returned and a torpedo fitted. Now, I'm not very good with heights and getting into the Avenger could at times be a little daunting. At first I could go in through the rear door, squeeze under the turret ring apparatus (still in there) and climb up into my seat, but as my beer rating improved, it was one foot on the open bomb bay door and up and along the wing. Was ok, as long as I didn't look down.

I normally only buy sim aircraft that I know in real life, so this was high on the list when I went over from FS2004. As said before, only flew it a few times, before something else came along. Perhaps today is the day to return to my past?

Now, I'm not very good with heights ..
Exactly what we like to hear from current (or past) pilots

I know what you mean though. While sat with my legs dangling out of a Cessna at 2500ft about to do a parachute jump.. all those thoughts are whizzing through your head. What if I fall?? Err.. that's the whole point

Is that aircraft the one I more than likely saw at Duxford some years ago Martin? Didn't realise we 'had one' and lost it to Switzerland.

Yes, probably the same one if then overall blue but we used to see the French based Royal Navy one over here from time to time. Registered first as N3966A and then G-BTDP, she was based at North Weald with Anthony Haig-Thomas. Now HB-RDG and living in Switzerland.

Just had a brief flight with the Avenger and now seem to remember why I don't fly her that often. Attention to detail is superb, but not that keen on the sound (too muffled) and as to the two FDEs, easy is ok, but not so sure on the 'realistic' one as needed to trim constantly and tight turns required a good boot of rudder. Now although have a lot of hours in one and all from the back, am not quite sure if this is correct. Read through the manual and couldn't find any references used as to the dynamics, so think will have a little sit down with the Pilot's Notes this evening and have a little refresher. It makes me think (have to have a sit down) how FDEs are sometimes created. He says building all those Austers with Messrs Molyneaux and Horsey that of course were spot on! :)

Many thanks,

Martin

Yes.. the sound can only be described as poor. I'd forgotten just how poor until I loaded it up again yesterday :( I think I may have tried the 'Real' flight model once and left it at that 8)

Thanks hugely for that Dave: when you get a chance, can you try holding a 45 degree bank right, then left, and let me know if you still think the A.I. horizon tilts the same ? I can get it to roll completely too - it's just in what you would call 'normal' banking that it seems not to move enough when banked to the left. Could it be a P3DV2 problem ? I can't imagine why...but stranger glitches have happened. ;)

EDIT: I've searched problems with the attitude indicator, and it seems there was a fix released with patch 1.1. As far as I can see, my download is v1.1 anyway, so it should be okay. *-)

Hiya Paul..

I've had a good look at the AI/Gyro and TBH.. I can't tell WTF it's supposed to be saying  There are differences in how it reads port and stbd. I've not come across this type of AI/Gyro before (not that I remember anyway) so I think some advice from Martin is required.. assuming he had an original in the aircraft he's flown in *-)

Will try and have a look tomorrow. Have some photos of the cockpit of 'DP somewhere, so will see if is the same. If can't find them will have a look through my Avenger stuff (got loads of it) and then fire up the sim!

Cheers,

Martin
