Way to go Mike
I have to admit that paying an annual TV licence is one thing that really gets my goat. I watch GP coverage on the Beeb since it moved there from ITV.. I watch MotoGP on the Beeb and every now and again.. I'll watch BBC4 late evening if all else is worse. Outside these 3 things.. I don't watch the Beeb at all. I rarely listen to the radio either!
I can't see public funding ever stopping though.. nice as that would be for me and many others.

They.ve always done that...I think is left over from the colonial days
They do it it in loads of languages too.
All this costs money and those countries don't buy a licence.

Well, I'd like to thank you chaps who pay the BBC licence fee.
For years, especially before having access to the internet, the BBC World Service was like a lifeline for me. I don't listen to it much any more as the short wave coverage in Europe has been cut back a lot. But now there's the BBC News website which is my home page and BBC Radio over the internet. Then there are the free podcasts I download every week; The Now Show and Saturday Live amongst them.
I do have to pay the licence fee for the RAI; Radio Audizione Italiana. It's generally dire, but as one of the few programs I watch regularly features lots of recycled and dubbed David Attenborough some of my licence fee presumably ends up in the Beeb's coffers. The new head of the Rai has promised to get rid the scantily clad showgirls, but there's always Mediaset. The terrestrial channels owned by Silvio. I don't think they're giving up on the dancing girls just yet.
