Hi Pete
Yes, I know. Gosport is in those shots. There's not much to it but every little helps as they say. The sub museum.. what's left of Netley.. a bridge over Haslar Creek.. a couple of sets of flats and the Gosport Ferry and terminal. Wouldn't be without em
EDIT: Nearly forgot the escape tower at Dolphin too

I was in the Dockyard today (not unusual) and it's almost like I'm there again!

Yes, I know what I said.. Portsmouth is already too full and my pc can barely run it but I've become addicted. I need psychiatric help!
Spice Island to Spinnaker Tower..
Spinnaker Tower - north..
The big hole behind Spinnaker Tower annoyed me so it had to be filled. Inserted are Gun Wharf and Harbour View

What you can't really see in that shot is the dock cover for Mary Rose and the buildings behind. There are 3 more 3D Warehouse sets I'd like to use, one of which will involve removing the current Semaphore Tower and the other 2 are don't knows. There's some bod.. maybe loads of bods who make models and upload them as anonymous and the model titles are 'A Model'. I don't like using any so named as clicking on the file to download usually displays 'filetype unknown' even though it should be a zip
Flying toward Portsmouth from any direction has become hazardous to fr's now though they're fine as long as I don't move

I love it though even though few of us liked it when we were based there. That said, we always thought it better than Guz , Chatham or Rosyth

Hi Garry,
I had to look it up, but it's real! Guz is the nick name for........Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport.
Dave wouldn't fib to us, now, would he?

Ah yes.. sorry for that. I've always known Devonport/Plymouth as Guz and as Mike has found, that's exactly what it is.. naval parlance

Are you going to explain how Devonport won such a nick name, Dave?
Were there 43 pubs along the shore, or what?
Guz...gUZ....GUZ...gUz...
Hard to park your ship, and guzzled lots of fuel?

Well mate.. looking at the RN historic website, the explanation given is this.. Short for “Guzzle”, relating to the West Country’s love of c cream teas of scones, jam and clotted cream...
This is the only explanation I can offer and I didn't know it until I just read it

Now that is interesting because, having been born and brought up in a naval city, I didn't want to show my ignorance so also looked it up. Unfortunately, I came across several different answers and all of them different from Dave's!
One of the most common was to do with its old w/t call letters being G-U-Z or G-U-S (which sounds lik guz when spoken as a word) but there were a number of others, too.
I have a feeling the true answer maybe lost in the mists of time in the same way as the reason why Portsmouth is called Pompey.
