This has been a timely reminder for me. I usually just back up my documents and settings because my external drive isn't big enough.
Finally I've got my finger out and have a new drive on it's way so I can create a full system image. I expect it will all go wrong tomorrow

So I now have O/S, FSX and all the available UK VFR Scenery DIscs (plus updates) installed.
Currently running another backup of this before I try the Trees again.
Interestingly;
Win 7 64 Backup size = 2.6 GB
Win 7 + FSX and Accel OOB = 10gb
The backup is still running (been running 12 hours so far) and would estimate 250gb +/- 50gb.
Once all the addons, aircraft and bits n bobs are on would estimate 350gb for the backup.
So I should be able to add all of these on my 2TB external WABOL.

So, after about 12 months I have fixed my backup drive, enabled windows backup (images) that actually restores correctly, installed FSX and ALL my scenery and found a fix for the scenery crashes. See here;

HTH,
Ted.
p.s. now all I need to do is re-install all my aircraft, paint jobs and other stuff!

Does that mean it was ES scenery causing the CTD Ted or are they just clever in sorting the problem out?
Sri if I've missed something 'key' earlier
Glad you've got it sorted anyway. Nothing more annoying than CTD's

It's the Earth Simulations software causing the crash. In fact, as soon as I installed any Earth Sim software FSX would crash.
This fix fixes it although I've yet to fly over an area to confirm the scenery is visible.

So, managed to set my controllers up. Tweaked the graphics and all the other settings. Here's what I found.
Over VFR London with VFR Scenery V3 and Trees, plus Uk2000 EGLC, graphics set to near maximums (I didn't go all the way as I am happy with the visuals with these settings), other sliders set high, default Cessan and most options set to on I'm seeing 25fps minimum.
I've capped FPS to 40. 25 seems fine.
Will post some screenies.

Don't you just love MS. Now I've got everything sorted TrackIR decides not to work anymore.
Must be my Unusable Slapdash Bolt-on again! Time to get down and dusty.

So, with the help of the cat I pulled out the desktop, took a look around the back.
I unplugged my Seitek Switch Panel and TrackIR started working?
So re-plugged the switch panel into a different slot. Now I have a stranger problem.
The switch panel works perfectly using the test tool Seitek provide but doesn't now work in FSX (to be honest it's been a bit hit and miss since I bought it) ?
Has anyone come across this problem before. It's not a hardware problem as Windows see's it and the test tool operates it. So can't be software per-se`. Must be an FSX integration issue, driver issue? Fortunately the lesser of two evils as I only use the panel for the u/c lamps!
