Do you have to have the PNW scenery for Felts Field or can you just buy it and lob it into FSX/P3D. I'm not sure what I'm seeing there despite you saying P3D was locked in Autumn

What you are seeing there is Felt's Field in Autumn Dave...I'm keeping P3D in Autumn and not allowing Winter because I'm working on scenery as it is in Autumn. The scenery textures and even shapes change with the seasons so a building in hard winter will be covered in snow and all sorts of objects will have snow on them. I'm still working in Autumn so the files are different from the ones that will show the same items in Winter.

The necessary regional scenery for Felt's Field is OrbxFTXNABlueNRM or Northern Rocky Mountains with Patch002 which has also just been released.

Thanks for that Peter I was wondering if the ORBX airports would fit into default terrain but thinking about it, they use common libraries don't they and the airports are designed to match their scenery areas. It's a pity really as it'd be nice to have some of the airports and not have to have the massive scenery areas they fit into. Having to stay confined to ORBX or default is just a bit too much for my cup of tea I like to wander as a cloud

Following on from what Peter says, it's normal for a big airport like this to have a region service patch released at about the same time. Because the airfield/town scenery is of a higher resolution than the surrounding scenery there are areas around the border that don't blend very well - until the patch is applied. I know there were problems with flying from FTX England to default FSX areas but it isn't the case in the US. It's a seamless transition to fly from say, Pacific North West into a default area, it actually blends and you don't have to change any settings to fly in and out of a FTX area. The cost of Felts Field is a very reasonable £22, which is fine if you already have the Northern Rocky Mountains. But if you had to buy the two to get the airport it would be nearer £50. I already had it and also have Jackson Hole, Wyoming installed in it as a destination for flights from Spokane. Thinking ahead, see!

Anyway, Felts is seeing some unusual visitors today but I've just done a couple of circuits with something a bit more in keeping. These shots show off a little bit more of the quieter corners of the field.

My point with the scenery is that the likes of Gary Summons and UK2000 offer you a choice when you install the airports.. 'GenX user' which you tick a box if you are and don't if you're not and the airport loads accordingly. They'd probably make a few more quid if they did it that way but I guess it may dissuade folk buying their scenery areas. That said, by doing it that way dissuades folk from buying their airports who don't have their scenery Six of one, half a dozen of another

There are several ways of doing it, certainly. I've only recently become involved in ORBX, as you know. It was PaulK who urged me to look at their stuff. But they've been around for a quite while in Oz and then in the US and have found a huge fan base for their way of doing things. There are 18,000 registered members on their forum and the overwhelming majority are happy to take whatever ORBX give them. But there is a strong customer service ethic from the company and it's very hands on. All questions are answered and all the developers have an active presence on the forum, as does the CEO, who often posts answers to questions or puts somebody in their place if they're out of order! If somebody is having a problem with a purchase it's likely that the man who built the airfield will stay with them until a solution is found.

So I guess they don't have to compromise to sell extra airfields. They want to do it their way and they've got enough buyers who like the way they do it so why take on the extra hassle of blending with third party scenery?

My simming is more casual than yours and I haven't got the patience to make different things work together. I prefer to load up things that are designed to complement each other and just go and fly. It's a lazier way of doing it but it obviously appeals to a lot of people other than me. Well, Paul and Peter on this forum certainly.

Just going to slip a couple of quick ones in (as the bishop said to the actress). The water courses were a bit untidy but the service patch for the Northern Rocky Mountains has sorted that out nicely. The waterfalls in town and the dam by the little SPB are looking good now and ready to be shown off

Wow! Ian, that looks wonderful...I had not discovered the water features yet. Can't wait to take a floatplane there. But today I must do my first flight in the Mosquito before I do anything else
