Well I downloaded from the 'Amazon cloud' ( whatever that is ) and all seems to have gone okay. I now have build number 3.5.2012.1029 which is what I was told I would get. ( Still missing a + though  )

However...

I no longer have access to P3D. I am supposed to restore the back up I sent to the REX servers when I bought REX2, but as it was optional at that time, I didn't see the vital need to do that. I had backed up my original textures, and the themes I had created, locally on my computer. Why would I need to back up anything to the REX server, I thought...

I've posted a message, so now I have to wait and see... :|

The backup backs up all of your license info too mate, that's why your best to do it. It may take them a day or two to resend you the license info ;)

Yep Ben, its only now that I'm aware the back-up included licensing info, not just original textures and created themes - the original optional back-up has now become an essential restore, which is too late for me. I shall wait for the email. I would imagine they are snowed under with support requests at the moment.

:)

All sorted, Ben. I am P3D Rexed Overdriven Plus and Plus.

Now to read this 'manual' item... ;)

I'm glad you did that first, Paul. I never backed up either. Now I can do that first before rolling up my sleeves and getting into this upgrade business. I don't need to read the manual, do I? You can tell me if there's anything I need to know

Ian :)

Ian, I have terrible news for you, brace yourself...yes, you have to read the manual. I can't even work out what I need to know, let alone tell you.

I've got past the basic configuration with replacement textures and whatnot, but I'm still exploring and usually misunderstanding what the weather engine is doing in P3D, or even whether its doing anything at all. There is still that nagging doubt. For instance, if you select the weather for, say, Bowerman, and then click 'Fly Now' you still go to the default flight location ( in my case Ketchikan ). If you then select Bowerman in the P3D 'go to airport' menu, is the weather there as it should be ? When I got there, there were clouds.. after I forced the weather engine to reload the weather, it it was clear. Were the clouds correct, or is the clear weather correct ?

Is could be as simple as " if you are at Bowerman, and you had 'let the weather engine load the textures' selected beforehand, and you click on ' load weather', then the weather is loaded correctly, the appropriate cloud textures and levels are loaded correctly, all as actually exists at Bowerman ". But, if so...why did the clouds suddenly vanish ? *-)

The good thing is this trial and error process defines exactly what it is you don't quite understand, and the manual seems pretty comprehensive. The authors of the software and the manual have done the best they can, but of course they can't do reading, the comprehension and the implementation of the instructions - I have to do that. I'll stick with it.

I think part of the problem is that there is no start screen in P3D to allow you to define your flight. Last night I had the Mossie and the RJ100 in FSX, both out of Newcastle and the weather matched exactly what was on the ATIS on the airband

Ben, the REX weather engine reproduced what was on your ATIS airband radio, yes ? Appropriate cloud textures too ?

Yep, certainly looked that way to me. I'm about 20 miles south east of EGNT and the clouds looked similar in type to what I was seeing outside.

Try simlauncher18.zip I think at Avsim, provides a front end for P3D (and FSX) set up a flight, Wx, location etc and away you go, great freeware.
