Re: i7 quad core and Raid 0 - whats the performance increase
Yes, I was planning on having the O/S and FSX on the same disc. Will this slow FSX down?
I could go for a 120gb SSD and a 1tb Hard Disc. Put the O/S on the SSD and FSX on the Hard Disc?

Re: i7 quad core and Raid 0 - whats the performance increase
Win7 ( and Win8) treat the OS disk specially when it comes to security. Also the OS is constantly reading and wring from the disk. If you have FSX on a separate drive and you want to change the physical disk, its much much easier as the special security doesn't apply and you get the benefit of a dedicated disk specifically for reading FSX data on its own dedicated channel. Can I ask what size your FSX install is (including all the REX stuff and other addons)?

Re: i7 quad core and Raid 0 - whats the performance increase
I've gone for 2 x 250gb SSD without RAID.
2 gb GFX card
i7 quad core 3.3gig overclocked 20% (so getting close to 4gig)
8gb 1800mkz mem (didn't do 2300mhz)
USB 3.0
Hope it works!

Re: i7 quad core and Raid 0 - whats the performance increase
Thanks for all your help :-)
Looking forward to my new setup arriving in a few weeks!
BTW I can break my RAID0 array by pressing CTRL+N during POST and just deleting the volume in case anyone else wanted to know how.

You can break your RAID 0 array, but remember you'll loose any data on the drives

What he accidentally missed from the specs Dave is the industrial air-con unit needing installed in the room as well to stop the heat it'll give out setting fire to the curtains at the same time

I'm hoping the fuel bill increase is offset by lower heating costs during winter :-)gordon-in-aberdeen wrote:What he accidentally missed from the specs Dave is the industrial air-con unit needing installed in the room as well to stop the heat it'll give out setting fire to the curtains at the same time![]()
I have to admit to being a little scared by the water cooling. Visions of water meeting heat, electrics resulting in an IT version of the Barham.
