That'll be to distinguish it from the Goring near where I come from I suspect!

Indeed. Lee on Solent's local website is 'Lee on Solent' though they also refer to themselves as Lee on the Solent
What is it with folk??
I might also add that some in Streatley refer to it as Streatley on Thames (though I'm not one)
