I do not want nor need to carry a conventional firearm, neither does the majority on front line response policing. I'm a qualified Officer Safety Instructor and can say with 100% certainty that there are better and more effective means of stopping the average crim from 'messing' with us.

There is a place for firearms in the police, not just in reactive 'ARV' policing but in other more specalised areas, some of which I'm sure most people don't even know exist, but they are exactly that. A specialism (and a bunch of too much hair-gel wearing prima donna's  )

As its "my trade" I can say this is almost very true, in fact when I retire I have many stories that I can happily share re such things that you will shake your head at in disbelief...
But I want the poxy pension (daily mail call it golden pension  I wish!) so I have to hold my tongue.. :wall:

You should have already retired Tony. My brother-in-law did at 50 8) That said.. my other one didn't (although you'd not believe that) Good things do happen mind you. My cousins partner has just reached 'that age' and was worried about his future. He'd been a driving instructor up in Leicester (I think) but.. the force have now made his job 'civvie' so he applied and got it. Must be one of those nausiating folk who fall into a barrel of something nasty and come out smelling of roses

I've got 20 years left to do, I'm not even sure what crappy pension I'll be left with then!

I know a fair few chaps who did that in the RUC / PSNI. Took redundancy with full pension and went back to work a month later as a "security consultant" on more money. Well for some.

Two chaps I know left the Force and went to work for private security firms as maritime protection. Working aboard huge cargo ships protecting them from Somalian Pirates. Good money too.

My sentiments exactly Rob. I never have and I can't imagine I ever will.

As an electrician Joe.. I'd like to think you wouldn't need one, unless of course you're charging too much
