just curious , but did you uninstall the saitek software and then install the win 7 version?

No, it's a fresh new HD with Windows 7, I then went to the saitek website and updated the driver, but I am not sure it needed it! I will check my USB's Ben, I know some are plugged in that are seldom used.

I don't have a Saitek but use an MS Sidewinder FF2 through a D-Link DUB-H7, 7 port, powered USB hub.

In fact it is a nifty little device exactly the same size as a packet of cigarettes.

Have you checked the power saving settings in Win7? It could be cutting the power off after a while

DG might well be on to something here, W7 default power settigs are more agressive than XP. That said, the latest MB USB drivers should detect activity on the USB device and keep it from going into low power state. Try changing the advanced power settings in the "Balanced" profile. Under USB Settings you'll see USB selective suspend setting, change this to disabled.
