Back on topic.. who's B17 is that in your shot? I have the old WOP model which was a belter (my fave from the set) and it drags over to FSX nicely. Not sure I'd want an Accusim version though. I only fly these things for fun and I don't consider the constant threat of explosion caused by my own ineptitude as fun

Yes, it's the updated A2A FSX Wings of Power B17 with Accusim. The aircraft can be a stand-alone model and will fly as you would expect using the FSX engine. Accusim is separate program written individually for each aircraft and bought separately. Basically, it removes a whole section of the FSX code and replaces it with the advanced interface that allows all those amazing animations and wear and tear to be programmed into the aircraft.

As you know, I haven't got the time or the patience for cold/dark starts and fortunately Accusim gives you the best of both worlds. There are a series of pop-up graphic menus that allow you to manage the systems with a few clicks and still have all the fancy bits. There's a one-click 'autostart' for instance. And a one-click Accusim OFF. Or you can ask the co-pilot to manage the engines. You can do a pre-flight check and decide whether to replace worn bits or leave them a bit longer. If you want a trouble-free flight, pop into the hangar first and select 'complete overhaul'.

I think the aircraft is worth the money as it is. Accusim is an expensive add-on but it lifts flight-sim into a whole new dimension. It's not a gimmick as it really does allow the aircraft to behave as the original would have done but it doesn't take itself too seriously - I haven't enjoyed my simming so much for years.

I always start the Spitfire from a cold start. I love the bang as you fire a cartridge and the squish as you prime the carbs. If you tick over too slow the plugs oil up and it spits, smokes and bangs until you rev it to clear them. The instrument panel vibrates separately to the cockpit and matches the vibration to the engine speed. You can even ask a couple of animated erks to hold the tail down while you do it and you should see their faces if you lift the tail up with them hanging on

Anyway, here are a couple of the pop-up Accusim screens on the B-17 that show you how easy it can be if you can't be arsed with switches.

ThksVM for that Ian.. much appreciated I can't see me buying it as I've tried (and so far succeeded) to make sure I only buy things I'm going to get some use out of so I still buy things mainly for FS9 (Sceneries). If these have FSX versions included, that's incidental but welcome It's great to see these models available but by and large, I don't have the interest

So I did a quick sortie over Slough (the most suitable target for friendly bombs) but sadly they evaporated before reaching the ground.

I never thought I'd see a reference to Betjeman on this site! But my favourite bit of Betjeman is " We sat in the car park till twenty to one And now I'm engaged to Miss Joan Hunter Dunn." Reminds me of my now far too distant youth!
