In FF, if you go to Tools>Options>General [Update] you should be able to change the setting from Automatic to Ask Me First.
I no longer see the RAM or the CPU problems. PaleMoon will grab up to 180MB of RAM on some sites where there is a lot of Flash content or other animation, but as soon as I move away from that site to a less complex one, the RAM is returned and I see numbers around 60MB. The CPU usage will go to 18-20% on the complex page but that is the highest I've seen, and again moving away to a simpler site drops the usage way down again. FF used to do that, but now it doesn't.
