Hi Markus
I had to check that the liveries fitted with my texture mapping as thats what i get the most stick for not being good at
And Garry went a bit Banzai with his paintbrushes too
So we ended up with a pretty good set of paints but there are 250 other liveries we didn't paint
Still love flying this one myself which is rare for me (usually bored of looking at my stuff by the time it's ready).
Regards
Rick

Meanwhile, I received the "semi-finished" metal textures made by Ian Warren.
This was awesome stuff to start with:
I just had to remove some items (air intakes, panel lines, wing lights) and a little blue tint from the photoreal textures, add some more blank metal to the aft and lower sections of the nacelle and create a decent alpha layer.
Now it looks like this:
What do you say?
Cheers,
Markus.

Hi Markus
Not bad, but since you ask I'll comment
The problem with photo real texture is they often don't look that real as the reflection is fixed and and the problem here is that the photo real texturing does not match the rest of the textures.
There are a few thing that need doing anyway that will help this
The front ring should not have that alpha and the exhaust pipe needs to be different to the rest.
Also it was pretty standard for the wheel covering to be painted grey with just the engine on top in metal...I think you will find these things make a big difference.
The shine need to be reduced as well in my opinion
Don't get me wrong, a fine effort and if you had just put it up I would have said nothing..but you did ask for opinions.

Markus,
I say ... most excellent. Thank you muchly for this great repaint for a great model. If you're short of ideas for repainting the 748, may I suggest you look at some for the HS.780 as I'd love to see more for the Andover,

Ro

Thank you for your comments!
I was indeed asking for constructive critizism, and I knew I would get it here!
The plan is to release the photoreal nacelle textures as an alternative file included with the Mount Cook livery to let the user decide which nacelles he'd like to use. If anyone is interested, I could also release a "nacelles only" layer to add to the phantastic paint kit for other repainters to play with.
I'm aware of the general problem with mixing photoreal and handpainted textures. It sometimes looks odd, one more reason to leave the choice open.
Concerning the front ring:
What material was the black area made of? Was it inflatable rubber for anti-icing? Or flat-painted metal?
I understand that the exhaust pipe as a heated part needs to appear differently - just have to find out where it's mapped exactly...
Good point on the gearbay doors! One more item for the fine-tuning!
The alpha shine indeed needs to be tuned some notches down, as the overall appearance should be a little worn, due to the harsh climatical conditions in Kiwiland...
Back to the draft board...
Cheers,
Markus.

Current status:
Observed from reasonable distance, she looks like this:
Some artefacts removed, alpha adjusted.
As shown here:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Mount-Co ... 0004616/L/
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Mount-Co ... 0214809/L/
CWJ didn't wear the black front ring, and it seems like the gearbay area wasn't painted over.
MCA on the other hand apparently had its lower nacelle parts (below wing) painted gray:

Some more fiddling needed...
