The default FSX GPS has a groundspeed indication. I see there is a GPS in the F1 Islander, can you not call it up on there whilst taxiing?

Come to think about it Gary the FS.9 has GS on it too.......but I've never had it open on the ground as I usually know where I am.
Must take a look next time.

Garry, I use the GPS all the time on the ground when doing FSA flights. Saved me a few times now.

Hi Gary
There are only 3 windows on the F1 Islander.. the aforementioned blank (for an invisible gauge), ATC and the KLN90a GPS. The KLN has numerous pages so one of them might show groundspeed. You need to download the real manual to see what's what and thus far, I've not been arsed

I've managed to successfully program it from A to B and fly there though I couldn't get it to 'release' the first plan so have not used it since. Worth looking at though
EDIT..
I went through the KLN90a this afternoon and didn't find anything accurate enough to warn of an overspeed on the ground I'm afraid despite there being 3 'speed' references over the selection of pages on the unit itself (Kts, GS and TAS).

How anybody can fly with a 2D panel I'll never know

If it hasn't got VC, it's not on my PC. I like to look around while flying, and having a panel in front of me all the time just hacks me off. Now.......if I could have a 2D that moved out of view as I looked out of the windows, I might change my mind.
BTW Dave, back to topic..........after a couple more flights, I think I've got the hang of this fuel thing

I have enough distorting with my eyesight anyhow with the VC distorting as it pans round making me feel Ill
So I always have 2D and have no trouble in looking arround
Looks like you won't ever be flying any of my models

Well, I suppose I exagerated when I said I wouldn't put a non VC model on my PC. It was very true until I joined CBFS, but then I downloaded the Dove, which of course has no VC. The few times i've flown it, whenever I want to look around I go to the (non existant) VC.
IF I can get used to that, then who knows, so never say never

Hi Pete
I don't like VC's for the very reason you like them but each to their own

Unless you have something like TrackIR, you can't see what you WOULD see with the minimum of eye movement which makes 2D panels (without TrackIR) a more realistic representation of what you should see.. albeit in a rather 'flat' perspective. This is an argument that's raged and will continue to rage forever as one mans salt is another mans pepper
Re the Islander settings..
I'm open to suggestion mate. The manual.. while looking very professional, is neither here nor there as far as settings are concerned. It has the DO NOT EXCEED bits but it doesn't really give a clue to 'every day, point to point' flying which is what we do with it here. The settings I arrived at were chosen in short order and seemed to fit the bill as far as a good mix of speed to consumption were concerned and everything is in the green which I like to see

If you find a leaner setting for the same speed (or faster which is always nice).. post it here and I'll be glad to give it a go
LATE EDIT..
Never say Never is a good way to go. I was never going to use FSX in any serious fashion (and I guess I still don't to some degree) but here I am enjoying the FSX-only Islander

I'm glad you're finally enjoying FSX Dave, it certainly is a different beast from FS9, but there are some great parts to it that 9 just couldn't do. I'm going to have to get that Islander, it looks gorgeous, but I'm finding the 748 difficult enough to find time for... At leat I still have some birthday money left, so cost isn't an issue.
