I was wondering where you got Court Line from

it was operated by Autair obo Autair Helicopters if never flew in Autair or Courtline (THANK GOD!!) colours......and it never showed its face in Luton after
1971 - I believe the idea was for it to fly Autair helicopters Bell 47s which were flown in West Africa on Mosquito suppression flights. Although the
idea of shoe horning a 47 into a DC7 cargo door is not something I would like to consider....we had enough problems getting Alouettes through a Britannia
cargo door. Autair Helicopter Services never adopted the Courtline brand and continued to operate after Court had gone into recievership.

Is Autair Helicopters still going?...they were in the nineties.


There was also a latter day Courtline in South Africa......same ghastly livery on a Convair 580

Thanks for th Autair info.I knew it wasn't fit for the purpose but I never knew what it was suppsed to do.

Also Co0urt bought the RAE Beverley to haul RB-211's but they never used that either.

The passage under the shot of IndiaEcho is a little misleading mate which is almost certainly the root of your confusion with who got it and for what. With it begining 'BOAC took delivery of DC7-C G-AOIE, seen here wearing BEA's famous red squares, on 14 Dec 1956'.. you'd be excused for thinking BOAC got them off BEA as the shot and wording are ambiguous taken in isolation

Did they? I was still working VC10s till '78 and I can't remember that!

But I'm well aware that your information is better than my memory, Garry Do you know where they flew them? I would imagine they would be using OD crews but I don't remember working any flat earth routes

It was the very last Standards not the Supers.

Overseas had just about finished with them but they had not been disposed of.

From what I remember they were used to fill odd gaps pending TriStar deliveries.

Odd how the Supers had the usual overseas division blue lower sides with grey bottom whilst the Standards had the European division version with the blue covering all the bottom.

Smack bang in the middle of the time you speak of.. '73 where my BEA timetable is 'BEA British Airways'.. I have 2 references for the VC10 (listed as VC10 Standard or Super) and these are direct flights Lon - Nicosia and Lon-Tel Aviv (plus returns). Sadly.. I don't have a 'BOAC British Airways' timetable from the same year

Could someone please explain why on a black/white photograph the BEA square is in colour?

An example of a poor/degraded shot made worse by poor retouching I think Chris. The fuel trucks to the rear show some colour too though not a great deal.

I think there may have been one other airline in the mix which is why it wound up in Shannon -- I think ATT may have looked at it as a replacement for the one they took the gear off at Luton.
