Were they, bare or painted silver??

Alway looked like a silver to me in pics but I have no experiece of real ones. :dunno:

Reference material i have says it was painted in a 'High Speed Silver'.

We are establishing they are silver whIch is not at all like bare metal so will look more grey

Bit by bit with constructive comments is the way forward,trying to avoid the horrors of photo(un)real along the way :)

Hey Garry

Very similar to that paint....by the way -- I remember going to a GAC Open day and seeing a Javelin painted the same colour -- that would have been about 1959/60 - as apposed to most Javelins I saw ferried out which were painted camo.

It seems a lot of early British fighters were silver rather than bare...This in the days when bare metal reigned supreme in general.
