not always true DB, it does howl in the air, when the throttles are slammed fwd, but yes, only at lower airspeeds

Yah.... certainly capable of creating the intake resonance when airborne...

COOL

Something to do with the pressure differential around the intake if I remember right *-)

indeed, the howl is simply air resonance, much the same as most aircaft make, just the Vulcan has it's own unique one. As said, it can happen anywhere, as long as conditions are right

Indeed... if there was a payware pack that sounded like that, I'd have it in a second...... and within about another 30, I'd probably be banned from Flightsim

DaveB wrote:Yes indeed.. as it should be. It only happens at a particular speed range at takeoff on full throttle which is much slower than you'd ever attain in the air. :)
I beg to differ. I've heard the Vulcan howl on several occasions this year, and a fair few of them weren't on take off, I can assure you!

As has already been pointed out to me. It's been many years since I saw the Vulcan and have no prospect of seeing it in the near future without joining the RAF which I'm not about to do ;)

Tks for begging to differ anyway. Not only do I get it at home, I get it here now too 8)

Ok, I had a brain wave just a few minutes ago. I made a new sound folder with no wave files in, so the Vulcan was totally silent. But as the howl is hard coded, that still sounds when I'm at full throttle. I've made a recording of it, and should now just be able to plonk it into the IRIS sound folder, replace the current howl wave and bingo, I'll have a nice new howl in there.
