You draw the polygon in google earth, save it as a kml file, then open it in FSX kml and set the point altitudes to what you want ;)

Yep, I have got all that Ben  , I need to set some vertice points at airfield height and others (further north) to the higher scenery height to make a slope. The points have no numbers in visual form either in the prog or google and the lat/long figures in the 'adjust height' window do not match google or FSX. On top of that I read that they are read backwards too!

Not 100% sure what you mean Trev. You can edit the altitude of each individual point on the polygon, by default when you save the KML file in google earth, they are all the same height.... or am i barking up the wrong tree?

You can indeed, but how do you know which point is which number on the chart? I know that first and last are the same, but that is not a different colour (which would have helped) and by the time you have shaped it, all dots are mixed up and I cannot find out which dot to set to which height.

The order is the order in which you draw them in Google earth mate. If your not sure, you could always jot down the rough co ordinates as youdraw in in GE ;)

Last time I used FSX KML for this, I printed out a screenshot, then noted on the printout which point was which & the altitude.

I do find ADE much easier for this though. You can have ADE connected to FSX, slew the aircraft to the correct point, note the altitude then edit the point accordingly in ADE.

Thanks Dave, I was just a bit 'bull in a chinashop' with my polgons and points.

I have moved over to Thorney Island and made a good start (a flat airfield) and am trying a combination of the two programmes (each is better at certain elements) to build it. I guess it gets easier, the more you use it!

Sorry I am beginning to think I am so stupid!

The 'help' or instructions are hopeless (unless I am looking in the wrong place), but how do I place objects from the RAF collection of buildings by Ted Andrews (installed in scenery/global/scenery) with textures installed too, as per his read me , into these airfields? I have stock items but nothing more.

Everyone assumes you are an expert already! Does anyone know of a good step-by-step tutorial or site for scenery design? I cannot help thinking that with an expert standing over me for an hour, all will become clear. Trying to suss it all on your tod is becoming a less than pleasant pastime.

I haven't used the latest version of ADE in anger, but I used Whisplacer for object placement before. This meant that there were two separate bgl's, one for the objects and one for the airfield. i just found it easier as it became quite cluttered otherwise. Also I used FSXPlanner as I found it did somethings better than ade and visaversa. http://www.zbluesoftware.com/fsxplanner/index.cfm
