HiTony, the problems are listed at the beginning of the thread, where it took only a few minutes before it now takes forever, up to 30 minutes for a short clip equally, at one time it came out as 2 Gb video file. A lot of the codec functions do not now work even after having downloaded from Bens' suggestion.
All future vids will now come with the replay at the bottom as cannot find any freeware software that will crop videos as V-Dub did.
Even the one on a previous thread does not appear to do it.
Regards
Nigel.

Unfotunately that will not help Tony, tried an earlier version that I had kept on disc but that is no good either.
Many thanks.

Nigel
Which codec do you usually use in VirtualDub to compress your videos after cropping?

Hi Ian, if you look at the first page where I posted the screen shot I used to use the Microsoft Video Codecs but since installing the latest Window Movie Maker thesse do not appear to be supported. Have tried using Cinepak Code by Radius but the vid is about 2Gb when completed (I think).
This is a short video that I just did, please ignore the replay at the bottom and also the frame counter at the top as I have been using the frame counter as a target to see what I am getting when recording so have not bothered to crop at this stage.
The vid was by Fraps and went straight into Window Movie Maker but the quality is not very good, certainly not anything like on my screen when using FS for real. Any ideas to improve the quality would certainly be helpful as having done previous vids I am sure the quality of this is awful in comparison to other vids I have seen.

I've still got WM9 on one of my PCs, and that will not let me use H261 or H263 in VirtualDub either, so I'm not sure that the later version is what is causing the problem.
Since you convert to Flash FLV for the final video, why not try DivX as the compression codec to produce an AVI file after cropping? At least see if it looks ok.

Hi Ian, I've downloaded the Codecs from a link that Ben gave me. Stupid question I know but how do I select them?

Nigel.

The codecs should just appear in the list in VirtualDub. Scroll down until you find the one you want.
For DivX, when you slect the codec, there are various settings under "Configure" that you can choose to change quality/size, etc.
I don't have PC with DivX available at the moment - perhaps someone else can advise. Or just try different "quality" settings until you are happy with the output.
You might also want to check here:
http://www.divx.com/en/products/software/windows/divx
I think the codec there is a later version than in the K-Lite pack.
Whatever, give it a try - so long as you still have the original, keep going until you are happy with the output.
