Is the file gatraffi.zip at Flightsim.com the same as the one you are referring to? Or is that something else?

AIFP is definately the best way to go and is the modern day equivilant to TTools and can still use flight plans in the TTools format, just make sure that you have the latest version from here:
http://members.shaw.ca/aifp/ as some of the early ones were a bit buggy. Also worth noting that there is a lot of very useful information on this site about how AI traffic will behave in Flightsimulator, regardless of which traffic compiler you use. Well worth a read.
