Years ago when I was a BCAL we had a One-Eleven do something similar at LGW. It had a reported defect of nosewheel shimmy on T.O. & Ldg, so at the end of a Hgr chk we had a pilot come in to carry out a high speed taxi down the runway. In the cockpit the capt's seat was fitted but in the RH posn was basically an orange box with an Engineer sitting on it. Half way down the runway the a/c took off, scraping the tail in the process. The Capt did a quick, tight circuit of LGW with barely enough fuel on board and landed

The Capt then became an F.O.

Utterly terrifying . I have to say I would never have attempted to put it down again, unless it really did not have sufficient fuel for a circuit

I have to admit that given that she's been kept out in the English weather (rain, freeze, rain freeze, rain, freeze) for what must be over a decade (15 years?) that getting it back on the ground if he could seems like an incredibly wise idea ;-)

Knowing the condition of dear old Superb at Brooklands.. much as I love her to bits, I wouldn't consider being airbourne in the full sense of the word an option. I wouldn't mind getting her wheels off the ground a couple of feet mind you!

It'd be a painful experience mate and we'd fall apart before we got to V1. The left maingear inboard tyre has a lovely bulge in it

It's the same side as the wing Roger fell off mate The tyre bulge is in the centre too.. not the sidewall so it's a tad egg shaped. Nah.. it's the RH wing that's popping rivets (though it has to be said.. it's only a small section above the ailerons) 2 inches of paint will cover it up nicely ;-)
