Hi Garry..

I've talked about this with the Vanguard crew and although none of us know for sure, there may be an 'out of config' alarm similar to the Trident, One-Eleven e t c. Therefore, it might be as easy to get the aircraft 'in config'.. though an easier solution may be to disconnect the alarm! ;-)

Oh yes I think I remember the alarm comment before :think:

What I wondered Dave was perhaps a wing could lift and throw it dangerously off the runway, hugging the dirt, where it might be safer to have it fly off if that did happen....like a keeping it in a control situation in the unlikely event such a thing could ever happen :think:

There must be a good reason why an aeroplane is in take off config when the intention is just to drive it down the far end of the runway.

From what I've read (on Pprune mainly) there isn't any such warning. The take-off flap is set purely to give the impression of an aircraft ready to go.

Not too surprising this has happened really, considering the weight of the aircraft compared to an operational weight. I don't think they'll be lifting the nose in future!
