Hi Ian,
We use Servage (servage.net) and have found them to be fair, reasonable and with a huge space to use for whatever you want. They are based in Germany and always answer any queries within 20 mins or so.
You get 750GB web space, 7500gb Transfer per month, unlimited FTP accounts plus 1 free domain included for less than £5 per month.
If you....or anyone else here wants it, then use this link below (should you decide on them), both you and I will then get an extra 75GB of web space http://www.servage.net/?coupon=cust40183
They even have a domain name checker on their site so if you come up with a name then you can see instantly see if it is free to use.
Regards
Brido Bear

Re: Web Hosting
Thanks Mr Bear. That looks simple, easy and just the job. I reckon I'll go for that and use the coupon as well.
Now I've just got to think of a suitable domain name ...

Re: Web Hosting
Sorry to come in late to this one but I've got several sites with www.3ix.com because they ony charge $1 a month.
They also have an excellent interface (cPanel) which is dead easy to set up e-mail accounts and hosting.
Regards
Jim

Ooh, and it's got MySql, Apache and PHP at that price. I'll bookmark that one with the others.
Riding on the back of Ian's original post, I thank you for your input.

Re: Web Hosting
Crikey! Thanks very much for that one. I'll have to set some time aside to look through them all properly.
I still haven't plumped for a domain name, but out of interest I went through the registration procedure for the Servage site Bridon Bear suggested. I wanted to see if there were any hidden extras and what else I needed to know. I baled out at the payment screen as I wasn't ready to commit. I received a personal email from one of the Servage staff today offering help and advice if I needed it. Not at all pushy and very polite. So that confirms Mr Bear's assessment of their customer service credentials!

Re: Web Hosting
Well, at that price I couldn't NOT go for 3iX. I was surprised to find quite a juicy domain name available. Speedbird747.com at $9.99 a year! (Yes, I know it's not relevant to my Dad's war memoirs, but he's unlikely to complain now
). Speedbird591.com was also available but is less meaningful outside of here! The total upfront cost for a year was less than £15 whereas with Servage it would have been £74 for 14 months. So even if I'd gone wrong it wouldn't break the bank!
Thanks everybody for your help and advice. Now to find out how it all works ...
