That Scandinavian stuff looks good, think I'll have a look at that too!

Ground Enviroment 2006 Ben, probably past its' sell by date and superceded by something better but I am happy with it, much better than MS default one.

Seems like two things get mixed up here;-)

The mesh as you say is responsible for the roughness (mind you in FS9 you have to manually change the LOD (remember...?) as the default detail is much lesser then that in FSX....

The Ground Environment gets rid of the brown winters as it is indeed textures.

SceneryTech even uses default texture and mesh, but gives you a higher level of terrain-details (Landclass), and thus also minimizes the brown effect in summer.

SceneryTech and GroundEnvironment deliver for both FS9 and FSX.

I dare say that any of the mesh programs are equally good, be it freeware or payware. They are more or less all based on the same data. Some of them though comes with "in-between-levels" or buffer-levels, and thus minimizes the blueish lines whenever two neighbourhood tiles get updated out of sync.

Take the time and download the worldwide freeware meshes, install it once and forget about it.

for the Texture and landclass files... well each to his own there...

Actually, out of idle curiosity and apologies for the thread hijack, but is it worth investing in "standard" mesh for FSX? I thought the default mesh for FSX was 76m, which is actually what the coverage is for FSGlobal? So you're paying for something you already have? Or is the default mesh of a very low quality?

I must admit I'm asking because an area around which I usually fly benefited lots in FS9 from having FSGlobal installed, however when I forked out for the FSX version and installed it, then uninstalled it, the difference was invisible to my eyes.

Hi Chris, Yes, the FSX mesh is very good by comparison to FS9. I think for FSX I'll get some of the area specific freeware meshes, but FS9 really needs it.

Are there any decent really nice high res meshes available for the UK at the moment? (19m +) Just the mesh, no ground textures and other additions.

No idea mate. I use the GenX stuff which is superb! but obviously that includes the photo textures

I'm not really a fan of the photo textures, the lack of autogen really stands out to me, otherwise it would certainly be an option.
