Dave, I spent the morning debating whether to go, but doubted the weather would lift. About 3 pm I looked out the window to the south, and sure enough the skies had lifted. Thought I'd missed the oppportunity, but now I learn she didn't show up anyway. I feel your pain, believe me.

She's due at Duxford's Autumn Air Display on October 5th, if you're interested.

If you had gone to Brize this weekend, you'd have seen her display just before leaving for Duxford on saturday, and on return from Southport on sunday. :o :o I went saturday but missed the display, but caught her just in time coming over the road, after a couple of circuits on return from Duxford.

Both Dux/Southport displays were initially cancelled on sunday (weather). It was only later that I found out that, not only had Southport suddenly become a goer, but, on return from Southport she displayed again (as just mensioned) at Brize. :brick: :brick: :brick:

Next week for Leuchars, she MIGHT possibly depart Brize on Friday and come back on Monday, so it MAY be a couple of weeks before I see her again at Brize and... maybe a possible display on return..... :prayer:

I wont advise you NOT to go to Duxford when you could just go to Brize, just incase of sods law, and you shoot me!

I own a Dynax 7000 film camera with a 70-210 lens - if I obtained a 35mm digital camera would that lens fit the latter camera?

I couldn't say off the top of my head if Minolta 'film' lenses are compatible with their digital range. It's most unlikely they'd change the mount for the digital camera though but it's definately something you'd have to check. Older Canon EF lenses are compatible with the complete range of Canon digital cameras and I believe the same is true for Nikon

The main think you'll have to look out for if the lenses DO fit/work ok is that it's likely the focal length of the film lens will not be the same on a digital camera due to the physical size of the ccd (the bit that replaces the film). Few if any ccd's currently fitted equate to 35mm.. they're actually a fair bit smaller which in turn, will make the focal length of your old lens that much bigger if that makes sense ;-) This can work both ways though. A Canon equivallent of your old 70-210mm lens would equate to 112-336mm on a digital Canon body.. a multiplication of 1.6!! The downside is that an old 25mm wideangle lens becomes 40mm on the Canon.. not exactly wideangle any more :roll:

FYI, Minolta are now out of business as far as I know, but I think Sony incorporated their digital SLRs into their 'Alpha' range. Whether the old Minolta lenses are compatible with or even fit the Sony cameras is anybodys guess. If you were thinking of going digital, you might be better starting from scratch and think of the old Dynax system as a backup or for nostalgia.

Yes.. since 2006!!. You may be able to pick something new up at a good price or even secondhand but I think it's probably best to start from scratch as Myles suggested. Minolta/Konica offer no support these days so you'd be taking a rather large risk

I was surprised to read that Minolta had gone out of business in 2006. My father died in 1991 and left me three Minolta cameras, the Dynax brand new in 1990 with lots of awards for its design.

You will all have guessed that I am no photo fiend but I would like to take some decent photos of birds(feathered) and acft. Bit expensive to start again though especially now that I go to airshows so infrequently.

Minolta didn't go out of business, they became part of Konica-Minolta and opted out of camera manufacture. I think they concentrate on photocopiers and stuff like that now.
Sony bought out the SLR side of the company and have been expanding the product line. There is a possiblity that your current lens will fit a new camera body. The best thing to do is take it along to a reputable camera dealer and have a chat.
Alternatively, there is no reason why you can't take great shots with your current kit. It is also quite possible that you can find good quality second hand Minolta or Sigma lenses to fit the camera. Obviously, if you start spending money on this, you won't want to be changing to digital for some time.
