Edit : Well, I've just read the news over at the Alphasim forums and I genuinely can't believe it. It seems like a step backwards developing for FS9 only after so many releases with both FS9 and FSX models and there's no way I'd part with money for a port-over as the performance of FS9 models in FSX is just horrid at times.
Perhaps they didn't think it was worth the effort because it's [part] British. :dunno:

Perhaps, Phil did have another uncalled rant about the "Classic British Flight Sim community" recently to which I replied, and then the thread was promptly deleted.

I think we all know what they think of forums that do that...

And on a slightly unrelated note, apparently their Jaguar is going to be FS9 only (with the price reflecting this, for some reason), so my current list of 'Things to buy from AlphaSim' stands at: 0.

I'll take an educated guess here, only Dano can do the FSx conversion work, ie one man, currently he's moving house so either the Jag is coming now as the original FS9 model to get it on sale, or they view Jag sales low enough and British to better spend the FSx mans time on something more rewarding in the pipeline :dunno: .

Or.... it could be a third option as just described at AS :$ , its an FSDS model and they dont port over as easily as Max or Gmax and I think theres only one FSDS developer left over there

Best

Maybe doing the Jag for FS9 has gained a customer...me

I did make a comment on that 'no more Brit' rant, saying I looked forward to the upcoming AS A-380.....guess that was enough to have the thread deleted!

Maybe it might be because the person that was asked to convert the model to FSX also got booted out.

Quite !, old Chinese proverb say, "man who burn too many bridges, end up on island all alone", Alphasim have certainly been clearing house this year, it'll be interesting to see how the leaner cleaner set up performs, I think they've lost nearly 50 years FS experience, they've gained some as well, enough to offset the loss ?, only time will tell.

To be honest I think the drive to more civil stuff would probably have seen a similar cadre of staff leave, so it may all be a natural progression and transition anyway.

For many years AlphaSim was my favourite payware brand... but with the price hikes, the change in direction and the overall change in tone, it's ages since I'm bought anything from them. Perhaps the last thing was the Scimitar?

They had a unique market positioning, good quality, military models, great value payware, with a historic bent. Now they've moved into territory that's already occupied by others. Although they still product some nice models. They've begun to loose that USP that made them special. Time was when the merest hint of a new AlphaSim release would really wake me up...now sadly it'd have to be pretty special.

Kind regards

Errr... No. When the quality of their models matches the price that they ask for them then it might be worth revisiting AS (or vice verca) but until then I won't be opening that particular shop door.

Chris
