Classic British Flight Sim

Hi,

I pulled the pics from my webspace as my bandwidth allowance got used and my website got removed. Website re-instated now but I've moved the images to photobucket now.

I didn't know there was a flying Spifire with the Contra-rotating props so that is a joy to see in those shots...Anyone have detailed info on that one?

She's based in France ( French registration ) and thats about as much as I know. She's been at Flying Legends for the last few years now.

"A well-traveled aircraft, PS890 was originally delivered to RAF Benson in 1945. In 1954 it was transferred to the Royal Thai Air Force, then in 1962 was donated by King Bhumibel to the Air Museum at Claremont, California. During its rebuild its wings were clipped and it was fitted with a Shackleton engine with contra-rotating props, then flown by Planes of Fame in Chino. In 2005 it was sold to the French collector, Christophe Jacquard, who took it to Duxford to have the wing tips replaced. It is now based at Dijon-Darois, airport, France." Cheers.

You have the RealAir Spitfire as guard gate. Have a look down the model lists and you'll find a Contra Prop Spit included in the package. There is also a paint for PS890 available at the usual sites ;-)

Hi Dave...Yes I'm familiar with the real life original but I always understood that it never got beyond troublesome prototype...The one in the pics here is really a bit of a fake with a Shackleton engine and rebuilt wingtips...But it looks lovely and I bet it flies nicely too. I've always been fond of the model and that is why I made it a Gate Guard...It is also the only one of the RealAir Spits that I get out and fly. The idea of giving it full throttle on take-off without running out of rudder control appeals to me :flying:

Yes indeed. I got the PS890 paint as soon as it came out (dread to think just how long that was now) and of all the RealAir Spits I fly.. 890 is by far the most prolific. I've never really been much of a fan of any of the Griffon Spits but 890 I always enjoy seeing IRL. One can only imagine what a monster it must be to fly even though takeoffs are reputedly easier as the contra props kill most of the torque effect. As one of the commentators said on Sunday.. most of these old fighters are really easy to fly once you get to know them but they're all difficult to land!

I've always liked PS890. The longer, more pointed nose of the Griffon Spit combined with a contra-prop really makes it look the part
Can't beat the more guttural sound of the Griff too. I can't think of a more enjoyable way to damage my hearing The comment was made on Saturday that if a Griffon is running smoothly then there is something wrong with it!
