I'll need to give that a go too! My observation dates back to FS9 when I flew soley in 2D mode. ;-)

Go to windowed mode.. open the gps.. then right click on it and select 'undock window' then drag it onto your second monitor. Go back to fullscreen mode and the gps remains visible on the second monitor ;-)

Being able to undock a window has been a feature of FS for yonks now.. you just have to be careful how you try to do it. If you attempt to move (for example) the GPS window to a second monitor while fullscreen.. it'll disappear and remain 'effed for the remainder of that session. As long as you do it in windowed mode and then go fullscreen.. it works fine ;-)

Why anyone would want to use that piece of tut is beyond me but there you go

Thanks very much for that, Dave. Here's why I like it. I can use the FS flightplanner to pick me out a route in a few seconds, which I print out for reference, and then if I start to doubt my navigation skills, I can check my progress between waypoints at a glance. Nothing to make my brain hurt!



Only 3 degrees and 1.72 miles off track and 139 miles to sort it out! More than enough info!

Ian, looks like your doing a great navigating job there. I must say that does not look like the UK your flying over - Thailand?

I will say the FS GPS does have a nice terrain display, and I will often check that just to see what I am flying over. As far as using it to plan a flight, I find it very awkward compared to FSNav, so I don't use it at all for that purpose. A major irritation for me with the GPS 500 is that stupid message light that continually flashes in busy areas even after you have read the message. I think there is a new message, check the message and it is the same one again! (I know you can turn it off but that defeats the purpose of the thing.) The GPS 295 does not have that message button thankfully.

The thing I loathe about the GPS is it's size :@

Exactimondo Garry. Have it at a reasonable display size and it cuts the visible area down to zero. Open it up and you need an electron microscope to see the detail on the map. All in all.. about as much use as t*ts on a bull and uglier t'boot

I bought a simple.. old fashioned looking GPS for my older aircraft a few years ago (very similar to the one made by a Canadian chap for FS2000) but found when I installed it, it only saw the default airfields! :o What a GREAT bit of kit :brick:

No sir.. there is only ONE nav tool for FS and that be FSNavigator. Does exactly what it says on the tin without the blx

Great shot there Ian. All you need now are blue neons on the glareshield and you'll be there!

Hi Nigel, close - I'm at FL380 en-route from Kolkata (Calcutta) to Hanoi and have just passed over Mandalay in Myanmar (Burma). Next waypoint is the VOR at Chiang Mai just over the Thai border .

Calm down, dears - it is re-sizeable! And that's why I wanted it on the second monitor, see? You silly old sausages

In my previous screenshot you can see both monitors. The widescreen of the laptop showing the panel and the square second monitor with the GPS stretched over most of it.

Well, I got to Hanoi without getting lost and this is how the GPS looks when maximised on my second monitor:



FS flight planner has given me my waypoints, which I've printed out, and the GPS is for fine tuning the route as I go.
