Stratocruiser on the way

Another great plane lost in FSX fog :-(

Hardly any info on their site at the moment, but Shockwave (now called A2A simulations) have a Stratocruiser on the way.

Sadly (for me) it's seems to just be FSX

I hope it is compatable with whatever comes after FSX, that way I will buy it! I have always had a soft spot for 'guppy' types, not sure why :roll: :roll:

Come on you guys FSX is a great sim....You cant stay with fs9 forever for petes sake! i never heard so much negativity! FSX might not be the great step we all hoped but its miles better than fs9@!

I use both sims and yes fs9 still looks good and it is a abit smoother especially at well stocked airports! but some of the land textures are really showing their age now, and especially so the boring old water textures......

Fsx looks great! and after sp1 and sp2 patches it runs great too on most decent pc's.

Remember, this site is called ''Classic British flight sim''!............. NOT..... ''Classic British fs9 flight sim''! Ha!

soz fellas just my personal opinion........ i love the 377 and will prob be interested in this one for my FSX sim lol!

I have to say I don't believe that my comment was negative in anyway. It merely stated that for me personally I'd prefer an airframe that went across both platforms. My FS9 as it stands, in it's very heavily modded form, is still my first choice. I have nothing against FSX, if I did, by that theory I'd still be using FS5. So negative? IMHO no. Sad? Yes, because one of my main 'likes' is producing real looking screenshots and that's where (again purely in my opinion) FS9 still scores over FSX. And me, I won't get the best from the model for my use.

Don't forget also that some would love to but can't for various reasons.

Just because someone asks for an FS.9 version does not mean he is an FS.X basher

Expressing regret at the lack of an FS9 version of this add on does not amount to FSX bashing. As I've said before, it is difficult to justify replacing a perfectly good pc everytime MS release a new version of FS.Come the release of a replacement for FSX then maybe it will be time for FS9ers to consider this. I agree Tom, I now own FSX and since its been patched it works well... the noise is me eating my hat... However it still does not replace FS9 they have chopped it and removed some good things from FS9 so I use them both for diferent stuff, if I want to "play" with the adventures I use FSX id I want to do some real flying then its time to fire up FS9
Like I say I am happy with both , to me they are different sims and I use them as such. I love the Strato btw its a beaut, I still have Mike Stones I think it was? on FS9

Much as I am eagerly awaiting Lewis' Strat (and appreciate the beautiful work on the model), I also see something that disturbs me. There are window escape hatches and fuselage hatches? that protrude out into windstream.

Although I have never flown a 377, I am of sufficient age to have flown Connies (R7V) and C-118's (DC-6B's). I assure you that streamlining was such (in those contemporary aircraft) that they definately did not induce drag this way - those items were flush with the fuselage.

Lewis: if there photos of the actual b377 that show otherwise, I am very interested in seeing them.

Fair enough gents am not after upsetting anyone, we are all simmers at the end of the day! Fs9 or fsx.....

I love fs9 aswell and i can see why a lot of people have not embraced fsx, i know fsx is a better sim but its not really what i was expecting, it is as has been said just a tarted up fs9 all said and done with a few anoying wrinkles thrown in to further divide the masses. But like it or loath it, it is here to stay and unless the community embraces new developments of future incarnations of flightsim then one of two things will happen

1.) Either the developers will listen and take note of the problems and try not to make the same mistakes in future incarnations or 2.) they will loose interest and we will be stuck with fs9 or X or 11, .......or...dare i say xplane 10 or 11 ha...

I think the real problems with further development of a tried and tested sim is trying to please all the people all the time, Freeware and payware developers who have just got used to the toolkits to develop addons for that sim, the general public who have built up a huge collection of addons and who are reluctant to upgrade all over again! etc etc, ACE's tried to maintain some compatibility with fs9 but in doing so they have failed to really give us anything new.....i mean new in the way of a graphics engine or even include true V.T.O.L support (prob because fsx roots include old code from its birth which omitted VTOL support) or Fsx would be betterif it included alpha blended autogen instead of the ridiculous pop-up trees that sprout up everywhere in front of your very eyes! The list is long on bugs and 'Things' that don't seem right are painfully eveident but the potential is also there...

The multi-core infrastructure is solid, and after a shakey start will eventually be able to use up to 256 cores if available!, and ACE's will continue to use this feature as they migrate to other systems.(As far as practical limits on number of usable cores at present, currently SetThreadAffinityMask only allows explicit scheduling of threads on 32 cores ( the mask is a dword ) on Win32). But hey the future is bright with the new cpu's already at 8 cores!

But seriously guys just cos a great plane comes out on FSX dont LAMENT all the time....try FSX .......have you seen it with ultimate terrainx and real environment xtreme?

So how can the statement ''''Another great plane lost in FSX fog ''' not be negative?.......like i said am not tryin to be antagonizing but there i life after Fs9......and yes if people prefer to stay with it (yes thats still loads i agree) then fine but try and be a bit optimistic with fsx and what it offers guys.....

Rather ...say ...WOW! what a great 377 and it will have all the bump mapped rivot goodiness and features fsx has to offer!...........anyway i love all you guys like i said am not tryin wind anyone up am new here and i fully realise you guys prob know more bout sims than i ever will lol..........

Hello Bill,

yes it is a streamlined aircraft, although not as much as the connie in this regard. The hatches and re-enforced area next to prop don't protrude out too much but are visible as kind of deep panel lines. In FSX the effect is simply done via bump mapping so its all texture based.

The Boeing 377 is one of my favorite airliners. However, my criticism against FSX is not addressed to the software itself, standalone. I am pretty sure it is a good step ahead in the FS world but : can I renounce to all my airports (pay or free) ? Can I renounce to my preferred British and not British aeroplanes ? All the DM and Rick Piper planes, for istance? The answer is NO and since I hate to utilise two simulators, I am forced to remain with FS9. In this way , I will not fly with Stratocruisers but my FS fleet and airports will continue to resemble my ideal flying world :roll:
The biggest mistake done by Microsoft is the incompatibility with their previous platforms. This politic has freezed the market and all the free or payware aeroplane production has been semi halted , if compared with the boom of the past with FS9. This is not only a personal opinion, this is the truth. Then if you accept all these restrictions, we can say that FSX is fantastic.
