Re: Virus.....Help!!
I hope you get on OK With CCLeaner.
I've been using it for some years now, so if you want any advice, just ask.
Regards
Kevin

AVG 8 will uninstall version 7.5 before installation. Then upgrade the definitions (just follow the instructions).
Might be worth letting it run a full scan of your PC to see if it picks up anything the previous version missed.

Re: Virus.....Help!!
Hi Kevin, well I got there in the end but with a few problems. :doho:
Did not get the free version downloaded from AVG as could not find it so instead went to Computer Active and downloaded the 8.01 from there.
The CCleaner works a treat, uninstalled AVG via that programme then did a registry clean. 'Perfek' as David Jason would say
BUT..............when it came to the install I received a message stating that Roxio CD/DVD Creator 6 needed updating as there is an issue with my present software that will conflict with AVG 8.1
So, on going to the website for the update my registration loggin would not function, even requesting help with password would do nuffin!! :brick: Decided to delete the Roxio software as don't hardly use it anymore as have other newer versions.
Pleased to say that I am now up and running with the new AVG.
Many thanks once again Kevin as I did not know that my previous version was going to be defunctional at the end of May. I owe you a pint. :drinkers:
Regards
Nigel.

If I recall correctly, during the initial install of CC there is a page with some options on it and one of them is to install the browser. I think it is ticked by default so i always untick it and have never had the problem you are experiencing.Garry Russell wrote:Everytime I run CC it installs Yahoo browser
It does clean things up but does nothing for viruses like mentioned above
Garry
CC is not an anti-virus program and so will not catch viruses. By cleaning the 'temp' folder it might clean up the remnants of some virus but that is only because it tries to delete all 'temp' folder files except those in use or very recent files.
Re: Virus.....Help!!
Sorry Ian, I somehow missed your post, that tip would have saved me going through the uninstall process that I did before installing the new version. :doho:
Will do as you suggested and give the whole system a full scan. Many thanks.
By the way, I am running CCleaner alongside Registry Mechanic, would they both conflict with each other on results? Is it best to just use one of them only?
Regards
Nigel.

Tony can you right click on the file and get the properties of it... accessed/modified/created dates and times, and the size ans size on disk (in bytes)
That way someone with the same file will be able to compair it with there version. If you want, you can send the file through to me and I'll scan it.

Re: Virus.....Help!!
Sorry that you chaps have been having problems.
I always uninstall by the method I quoted, after finding that some uninstalls (nVidea in particular) leave behind the previous versions folder in Program Files.
Like many freeware programs CCleaner asks to install Yahoo or Google taskbars (they have to make their money somehow), but these can be removed during set-up. Always read each page of the set-up as you procede.
Using Zone Alarm, I always block freeware programs from automatically downloading updates. These programs can then only access the internet when I let them.
Garry,
The free version of AVG8 can be found here
http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg ... ti-rootkit
Appologies if my advice has caused any problems, but AVG7 FREE will shortly lose support and updates.
