to dave b, we were always welcome in uniform or not by the portland commando's who were based in the green shutters outside the main gate at portland. also the grumpy sod who owned the greasy spoon further along the strip. ah! those were the days. that's if you ever had the pleasure of bost training there.

Its a funny thing.....I know what Trev is saying about not being able to wear uniform in the 70's and 80's as all of the UK and 99% of Germany had that ruling but we in West Berlin HAD to wear our uniform so those darn Russkies and Easties knew who we were.......I was extremely proud to wear it in East Berlin because nearly all the women over there used to blow kisses at us.....this made my missus jealous and made me think i was damned handsome until i found out they did it to all of us......

I wear my current NHS uniform with pride and don't get retributions wearing it....and next saturday i am re-joining the RAF (reserves) and its sad that i have to do it secretively as such.......We should be proud of our boys and girls and these idiots doing the tauntiing should be dealt with and our servicemen should be allowed to walk around with their heads held high....!

How many Bost's in 16years.. quite a few and hated every single one! :@ True though.. the greasey spoon's, pub's, bars, burger wagon's loved us wherever we went (the milkman too.. he used to make a fortune in Pompey dockyard) but that doesn't remove the fact that we were always thought of as 'skates' by the indigenous natives. That said, sailors are probably not as wellbehaved as our 'clean cut' cousins in the RAF and soldiers.. well, you can't see them anyway due to the cammo

I'm sure that the people of Peterborough or wherever it was/is are fully aware of the local 'forces' population and to encourage forces personnel to go ashore in rig will make it look like there are more of em! Still.. it's wrong to have a go at em just because they wear the Queen's uniform. As has already been pointed out.. it's the politicians that make the decisions, not the troops
