Thanks Dave B
Guess you must be Dave Booker of DM fame
Great job you guys do.
I'm ex BA/Thai/Finnair/Austrian and have done dozens of cockpit flights, sadly all in the past now (thanks O b Laden)
Went to Brooklands last year for the first time, great to sit in the VC10 again
Keep up the good work
Dave

Yes indeed.. always nice to have another Dave around ;-) I did a lot of bits with DM in the past including the VC10, Trident, 1-11 and Comet but fortunate for us all.. he's got much better and I've turned my hands to painting (heaven forbid)

A downside of this is that my eye's have gone downhill rapidly but it keeps me out of trouble.. and Garry Russell's inbox full!

I noticed this also - rather that go slavishly for an on the numbers appraoch, I tend to hold at VAT -5 or so for the last thousand feet. I close the throttles at 500ft, and give a little extra pitch at the threshold. I'm currently mooching around Glacier Bay, and using Yakutat at the moment. 20% fuel, crossing the threshold at 117kts, a slight pitch up (an extra degree or so) before gently nosing down sees a perfect rub onto the TDZ as speed falls through 105kts.
Probably more like a light A/C landing than for an A/C the size of the Vanguard - but no-one really sees.... ;-)
Not the most authentic way to do it, but it gives a decent landing and stop without any danger of floating away.
