He follows in a long tradition of active service , and of brave conduct in the face of the enemy . In the D.Telegraph various instances were mentioned, but the most notable one was omitted, in that King George VI ( then of course not the immediate heir to the throne) was at the Battle of Jutland. It is very unfortunate indeed that some American idiot should choose to reveal the current state of affairs. Incidentally , I cannot agree with the parallels drawn with Eisenhower and the Kennedys - Eisenhower only became prominent in the lead up to D day, and the Kennedy family were hardly of great importance ( except perhaps in their own view) at that time, the only fame achieved up to that time being Joseph Kennedy's notorious conduct as the Ambassador to London

Actually, Eisenhower was quite famous as he was the Commander Allied Forces at the time his Son graduated West Point and headed to Europe after D-Day. In addition, the Kennedy's were quite well known as they were an "old money" family. While not considered "famous" on the international stage, they were certainly well known within the United States.
Finally, once again, you only read half the story. It was not "some American idiot" that revealed the current state of affairs. As was correctly mentioned in the article linked, it was an Australian magazine and website who published where he was initially over a month ago, but once again, political desires creates the "need" to bury that fact well down in the story and make it look like those "damned Americans" were the ones who put the Prince in "jeopardy" instead of correctly placing blame where it's due - the source of the original story.

Personally I'd like to believe that anyone who may eventually, or potentially, wear the uniform of a Commander-in-Chief of any arm, with all the scrambled egg and gongs that go with it, may have actually earned the honour...irrespective of background and upbringing
Far better put Derek.

Hmmmm.......He's a serving officer......I was embarressed by all the press i recieved when i did Gulf war one.....

Yeah right.... ;-)
The only thing i can say is its a shame he can't do his "job" without all the hype.....?
Just being a bit grumpy here.....
In the Army he is and should be just another Officer doing his job for the Queen....

The pity is....he can't....Ruddy press...!
Respect for him and his colleagues and all the coalition forces but thats as far as i will go for HRH.....

Drudge published the report last week. The Australian Magazine ran the story in January. I'd say the Aussie pub broke the story. They just didn't "pick up on it" until a US site that is dedicated to going through the internet and pulling many stories from other sites in addition to it's own information posted it on their site as well.

regardless who broke it, as far as i am concerned, the press have caused far too many deaths of service men over the years.......
i know of a few occasions that the press printed stuff, it was bollox...and in some cases caused troops harm..........preventing them from doing their jobs
why cant people leave them alone
well done harry, go and get pissed now with the boys............ CHEERS CHEERS
