I like the bit when he kept descibing the manoevers to "dissapate excess velocity"
STUPID and I always thought they did that to slown down

I loved the HUD coming through the cloud and then the runway right in front, Ican't even do that on my Cessna with low cloud, well not so precise, and the sonic boom (bang) coming out of the sound barrier was awsome, have been watching since 12:50pm GMT great watching the landing as well, :flying: :flying:

Yeah, but "slowing down" just doesn't sound right when you're talking about taking thousands of miles an hour off the velocity of the vehicle...
Pilot must've been flying (or at least that's what the CDR will say) since it landed on the left side of the runway.
They just said that they stopped at the 11000 foot mark. They landed around the 2500 foot mark, so that's a pretty decent landing roll for the orbiter at 8500 feet.
Well, off to go fly (in the real world) myself.

It is interesting to note that they are still supersonic when only 4.5 minutes from touchdown...Great pair of sonic booms BTW
The whole operation seems to have gone exactly by the book...Wonderful precision and I just love watching it

It was fascinating....
The speed in which it flew past South America. :o
You can read any amount of facts and figures but when you watch it live it's a whole different game.
Only one shot at the landing as well

The commander greased the landing. Very smooth!
