Yes indeed.. most interesting. We've been wondering what to do with the 700's we have and consideration was being given to operating them in Canada as TCA had 51 of the little tinkers :o If we can utilize them down in the Med area.. I'd be happy to see them down there.. happier than seeing them go to TCA too ;-) Perhaps Nicosia could be a BEA hub for the North African - Near Middle Eastern routes??

I don't know how much further BEA went.

The Nicosia route when the Viscount was introduced was said to be about the longest so that seems to say it went no further.......There ia a bit in the Airline and Airlines V.700 book.

To have gone as far as say Tel Aviv or Beirut would be into BOAC territory.

Any based would be Cyprus Airways itself with it's dedicated V.800's. :think:

Been talking with Fraser and we could do with basing a V800 at Southend. I've looked on the usual sites but can't find a Channel Airways V800 repaint , have i missed it or was one never done?

Southend can be BAF..there are loads of BAF paints.....and the BAF Heralds

I did a Channel right at the beginning ny it was not released at Rick request because he had done one. That was releasd on a limited basis but I dodn't know it's status now

Hehe................. floodgates..................open..............springs to mind. We've got 5 V700's in North America at the moment. We've got good info for the TCA/AC routes so I'd rather try a couple (we have two repaints) of them there first. If the 700's are viable then we can look at other operations.

could you not make that two pls for canada. canada at this time was still part of the british empire/commonwealth and cyprus was not. also we have two x pats living here. CHEERS

NO.. no floodgates open ;-) If it was going to be viable.. then why not but it seems that Cyprus was as far as our Viscounts went.

As John says.. there are 5x700's in North America already and it's likely that's where they'll stay so you pair will have your private fleet of VC8's and 9's to play with ;-)

Just noticed this thread after having my eyes tested

Problem with the Southend ops is that it's like Life on Mars; if we base BAF a/c there they are living a double life with their BEA/BAs predecessors, hence the decision to add 812s there,or alternatively some 700s As BAF ops were largely (not entirely) charters/contracts that's not really an option anyway. Our 802/806 fleet is allocated according to their airline structure in the early 70's, the balance, 810's , are mostly BMA and are allocated accordingly.

I'd rather see our 700s retained here for whatever use, be it BEA overseas, UK-Med ITs, BOAC internals or the domestic ops of the independents, but have no objection to those airframes which are already in North America staying there.
