Perhaps you video card could be breaking contact a little
You could try seeing if it seated fully..I had that recently and it stopped videos playing and of course FS..........this was on my back up machine.
Snapped the card fully into place and all was sweet.

Definately sounds as though FS is detecting that the graphics is still in basic mode. If you check in device manager and make sure the display device is being detected correctly... i.e. NOT the default SVGA device.
