Thanks for the advice, my apologies, I wasn't trying to "reserve" either scheme - I'm sure you'd do a much better job on them. Anyway I'll batter on with the Air Luton one for starters and post the progress shots as I go - together with sundry questions. I had PSP5 before but since I've loaded PSP8 it seems to have far more features, so progress has been slow. That and wandering down byways in researching possible schemes and planes to paint them on. This desk is now cluttered with layers of scheme printouts and miscellaneous Idiots Guides to Painting - most of which start with get on with it. So I will.

Edit: PS I've found your schemes to be a brilliant "Master Class" in showing where I need to splash the paint on for the various bits of the schemes, and a fascinating insight into the lives and times of the various DC-3s involved.

Stripes are the worst to get looking right or 'right-ish' due to the texture mapping particularly where the tail joins the fuselage. After numerous ways of trying to get things lined up I've settled on the following:

Paint stripes on stbd main fuselage.
Paint stripes on port fuselage and get the 'symetry' lined up with stbd side adjusting both so that you are reasonably happy.
Paint continuation stripes on the tail section and then concentrate JUST on getting the port side lined up as close as poss.
When port side is lined up where you want it adjust the stbd fuse rear nodes to match the tail. You'll need some extra nodes just behind the windows so you don't drag all the stripe.

The texture map does some weird stretching in various places and you'll see the tail strip area gets streched on the port side compared to the stbd. It's a matter of finding a balanced compromise.

Did I mention this was going to be a slow process?

After dodging in and out to watch the Goodwood Revival bits on ITV4 - I don't remember that much sunshine - and then the GP, I have got :

A white rudder and rudder trim tab (I've found the edgeseeker tool!)



Now that has been saved as a base for a couple of other whitetails, I'll have a go at the side stripes next before going on to the tail logo, seeing as how that will be the make or break for a successful Air Luton scheme. The stripes can always do sevice for the Gibair scheme.
