OK.. I just went and bought it (a sucker for anything with Royal Navy painted on the side)
Can't say too much at present except that it's not as easy to deck land as a certain other project. It's gonna take a little practise to get the right balance between power/speed and RoD which, after 2 landings.. isn't easy to find (noting that I do a great many deck landings on a weekly basis and am not exactly a novice). It's coming in with (IMHO) too high an angle of attack. More power and it oversteps the mark by some margin less power and it sinks like a stone. No doubt this is the 'realistic handling built in) Immediate VC view (the one you see when you go to VC) is pony.. again in my view but it's not alone, not by a long way. Probably the most difficult thing is getting the right VC point for landing!!
I'll report back when I've played some more ;-) What I will say though is that it's nice to have a Scimitar.. albeit one with rather more rear end glow than is necessary
I must say I am very tempted, it looks terrific both inside and out. I've never attempted carrier landings in MSFS, and what with the A-6 Intruder coming too, its about time I got to grips with it.
And that self-shadowing VC vid has me wondering...for how much longer will I be able to resist upgrading to the 'Flight Sim That Dare Not Speak It's Name' ??
Dave, have you tried the single engine throttle technique detailed in Michael Doust's 'From the Cockpit' book? You set both throttles so you're getting about the right rate of descent and then only use one to make corrections which reduces the tendency to over correct. I'm not sure how you'd have to set up your controls in FS as I tend to just have my throttle control all the engines but it should be doable.
Skip..
No matey. I've had very little time behind the stick on the Scimitar so I don't want to be unkind to it at this stage. The payware project I'm involved with is nearing completion so it has to be full steam ahead with that for now and I'll concentrate on the Scimitar on an 'opportunity' basis ;-) I don't like the fact that the gunsight in VC isn't active so you can't move it out of the way for landing and for my eyes.. it gets in the b1oody way. There's much I don't like about the 2D and VC already but as was the case with their Vixen.. my heart overruled my VISA
Crikey, that was quick, Dan was only doing the VC a few days ago; no wonder there are a few snags that should have been caught by the beta guys (whoever they are ).
At present (after almost no internet yesterday at all), I am on half dial-up speed so a purchase will have to wait until it is fixed or I can get to an internet cafe. 100 megs of download :o would not be a viable option at present, I have been trying to upload some more shots to the gallery and failing!!
Despite any shortcomings, Alpha need a a 'pat on the back' for developing stuff like this, no one else in the payware world would be so brave :kissu:

I totally agree and hats off to AS for all the work they put in the flightsim world.
But on the negative side as everything has in this world, ive noticed the more models they are putting out recently, their is a basic problem with almost every release, did this use to happen before? not very often as much as i can remember so that means somethings gone wrong as problems are slipping through their nets somehow. If they could iron them out then people like me wouldnt seem to be negative towards them, but we are allowed to be postive and/or negative as we as customers/potential customers and have a right to be.
