:o Dave, that vid brings home the horror and dangers that our ground troops and others have to face on a daily basis whilst we are all getting on with our lives without so much as a passing thought until we read or hear about it on the news.
That documentary of 27 Sqdn was well worth watching, I have nothing but admiration for those guys.
Nigel.

Thanks for that Tom, we had rotating detachments to SHDN(F)I(the F was added by us and you can guess what it stands for  ) and Belize, these were done by the Ops guys and it was normally arranged to spread expeience and youth, as you say. However crewing was a pure lottery each 24 hour duty period (24 on and 24 off standby, but still 'around') as other duties such O.O. or O.Sgt etc.set the whole thing out of phase every few days!
I think the current idea is much better, I guess it cannot be kept up on normal home routine, however I think the Nimrod guys still have a fixed crew. I spent a short time as a supernumary at St Mawgan and crews were very much a team there.

Yeah Nimrod are still fixed crews. Its good in some ways but bad in others.
Back home we fly with practically anyone (Who aren't in Iraq anyway), once you get on det then you stick to the same crew for that month or 6 weeks.

I was disappointed that no film showing groundcrew servicing the Chinooks was shown refuelling, maintaining and arming the aircraft.
Are the groundcrew all US personnel?

You are avvin a laugh

, no I think it was not as 'interesting' for the BBC guys, I think I did spot one or two
erks, getting in frame BTW. Trouble is on detachment it is often difficult to tell them apart from aircrew!

I thought the Programme last night was fantastic . though I thought the end was sad when the Young Soilder died when he got shot in the chest and they had to go get him :-(
Chinooks are large and slow
I could not belive it when they put the Chinook up to it's maximin performance and they lost there Support heilcopter the Apache so they could get the boy to hospital ,Goes to show it can go fast when it needs too.
Shows the americans just sick over the Choppers why we brits sick in are helmets
Hope it was a series but it was just a one off :-(
