You should have a pop-up blocker built-in to your browser Marcus (though these don't always work). Just make sure you're not surfing with NO antivirus :o

I'm now using avg instead of Norton's, is there anything within avg that allows you to stop receiving adds? I've been into the tools within IE and clicked on the not allow pop up's but I'm still getting adverts.

I use AVG and also Zone Alarm for blocking intrusions ans other nasties.
Zone Alarm has a free version

No problems with popups with ie7.... and I'm pretty sure CB had a few bad experiences with AVG in that it was missing viruses. I'm pretty certain the word on the street is that AVAST is the best freeware virus scaner at the mo. ;-)

Um this gets even more weird, I've been on a couple of sites that require flash player owing to the fact that my browser, IE7, isn't running it. I've downloaded flash player but it still won't work.

I don't get it, surely if it's been downloaded and installed it should work but it ain't |-)

I have had that problem in the past - try uninstalling then reinstalling flash player. See the link below and just follow the instruction.
