We all feel for you Grace. Another poor soul duped into thinking that if it's payware, it's good. :-(

There IS a plus though. DM has never made a K4 (not that the Addictive model IS a K4) so use that for AI at Brize ;-)

Right, thanks to you guys I have spent four hours today flying DM's VC10 when I should have been working...

DAMN it's good. The look, the feel and the sound...Oh! the sound. Now I've figured out how to set the climb rate (instead of drifting down inexorably towards the Prestwick hills, peering at the altimeter and wondering why it won't maintain a set altitude) and how to make it do a full autoland, I'm probably ready to pick up my round-the-world where I left off. Wish me luck - there's an awful lot of water between Nandi and Sydney...

DM you are a genius and I feel compelled to offer myself to you...

You don't need luck when you fly a VC10 ;-)

I think DM is spoken for. He's got wife and kid(s)? so your offer might feel a bit awkward :dunno:

I still wonder where he finds the time to do his wonders though ....

Well chaps, I made it from Nandi to Sydney without major drama in DM's amazing, unbelievable, fantastic, exciting VC-10. What a pleasure. Those engines...

However, I have a couple of questions, if anyone can help, Whilst cruising at FL290, M0.83, I engaged the MACH hold switch and the a/c immediately began to descend at 400, then 700 then 1500 fpm. Why was this? How can I maintain altitude AND a set MACH number automatically? Perhaps I can't, as the autothrottles of course only go to 180kts...

1. Is it necessary to keep manually tuning the throttle throughout the cruise?
2. Why did the autothrottle only go up to 180kts?

Hi,

Speed hold, be it knots or mach is maintained by the autopilot adjusting the pitch of the aircraft with the elevator trim. When in the cruise, set altitude hold and adjust power for the desired speed. Full description of operation of the autopilot is on DM's website documentation section 'Airliner Manual'. Here's the link to the autopilot section :
