At the risk of sounding X-challenged, can someone explain, in layman's terms, what 'bump mapping' actually is ?

It does what it says on the tin.. brings out bumps etc- another term )ish) for 'height' mapping.

Hi Paul

It's an extra layer in a texture that can make bumps & lines stand out or recess without needing to model the part with it's full detail.

ie: the rivets stick up in full 3d just by texture so it saves framerate over making the rivets with polygons.

Sadly i can't use the system yet as FSDS does not yet support all the new stuff and looks like it will be a long time before it does if ever :worried: .

Rick
